Back in 1990, legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley – whose many horror movie credits include The Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons, Witchtrap, Graduation Day, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Nightmare Sisters, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, and Silent Night, Deadly Night – made her own hour-long, horror-themed workout video. A release that was appropriately called Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout… and which has now been given a special edition Blu-ray release! Copies can be purchased at This Link.
Directed by Kenneth J. Hall, Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout has the following synopsis: After a nice shower, Linnea does some warm-up stretches and then goes for a run. She encounters some flabby zombies who follow her back to the house, where she leads them in some poolside aerobic routines. Later she unwinds by inviting some girlfriends over for a slumber party and some exercise.

Following the one-two punch of 1986’s Witchboard and 1988’s Night of the Demons — both of which yielded sizable profits in the video store market — filmmaker Kevin Tenney was eager to return to his independent roots and make a movie without interference. He and his team managed to raise $400,000 with the caveat that it had to be used within a short time frame. As a result, Tenney wrote the script in a mere six days.
The result is 1989’s Witchtrap, so named in a thinly-veiled effort to capitalize on his previous success. (The feature was preceded on VHS with a forthright notice to viewers: “This motion picture is not a sequel to Witchboard.”) The rushed script turned out to be only the first of several issues that would haunt the production.
Tenney populated the cast with amateur actors who had appeared in his early student films as a show of gratitude.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

It might still be six weeks until October, but horror movies are a year-round joy, and several new genre titles are making their way to Hulu next month.
An American Haunting is one of several cinematic takes on the Tennessee legend of the Bell Witch, switching between the 21st and 19th centuries as a teenager experiences the same trauma as another young girl far in the past, which may or may not be caused by witchcraft and a ghostly apparition.
Best known as the team behind anarchic comedy Super Troopers, Broken Lizard also took a far less successful stab at slasher movies with Club Dread, adding to the post-Scream glut of the subgenre’s resurgence with a comedic tale of a serial killer stalking the staff of an island holiday resort.
As if an introduction were needed, Evil Dead II continues the misadventures of clueless idiot Ash and his battle against the malevolent deadites,...

"Alone... in a house of secrets." Vertical Ent. has debuted a trailer for an indie horror called The Haunted, not the most original title but that's not indicative of much. This premiered at Screamfest a few years back, now getting an official release (in the Us) coming up this May. Arriving at an isolated house for her first nightshift, young care-taker Emily is left alone to face a terrifying vengeful spirit in this disturbingly clever, psychological horror. Only 75 minutes long! Sophie Stevens (from "Doctors" and The Black Prince) stars as Emily, along with Ray MacAllan, Nick Bayly, Maggie Daniels, and Virginia Denham. It does look like it might be quite scary, but hard to tell if there's more going on in this than just another haunted house. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for David Holroyd's The Haunted, direct from YouTube: Emily (Sophie Stevens) arrives for her first night-shift as a care-giver,...

Pick of the Week20th Century Women
What is it? A single mother in 1979 California tries to raise her teenage son with assistance from their friends.
Why buy it? Mike Mills’ (Beginners) latest is a beautiful ode to not just motherhood but family and friendships in general. Annette Bening delivers what should have been recognized as the best of last year too as she finds wit and warmth in a character trying to do right by her son. Billy Crudup is equally fantastic, and they’re joined by Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning who also deliver compelling characters. I am not sure what took so long, but director Kevin Tenney, someone who didn’t grow up on horror films, thought about doing a movie where a Ouija board was the star. That brings me to the 1993 sequel, Witchboard 2: The Devil’s Doorway, a movie I think is just as good, if not better, than Witchboard.
Jason Bene: How long after the financial success of Witchboard did you decide to write and direct the sequel?
Kevin Tenney: The production company, Paragon Arts International, and I talked about it right away. Their investors were all very anxious to fund a Witchboard sequel. But Paragon Arts wanted to leverage that interest by having them invest in another film first, entitled Night Angel. Paragon was going to quickly produce that film and then go straight into Witchboard 2. Unfortunately, they had a lot of problems with production and budget on Night Angel,...

Night of the Demons, Witchboard, these are films that horror fans have grown up watching over and over again. So when Kevin Tenney, the director behind Witchboard and Night of the Demons, has a new film coming out, we here at Bdhr take notice. Kevin Tenney's latest effort, Brain Dead starring Joshua Benton, Sarah Grant Brendecke, David Crane and Andy Forrest, is a homage to the horror films of yesteryear. We also wanted to know what Kevin Tenney thought of the Night of the Demons remake starring Shannon Elizabeth (Scary Movie), Edward Furlong (Brainscan) and Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason) and in a cameo appearance Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead). Here's what he had to say about everything.
Who is Kevin Tenney and what are you all about?
I’m a father, a husband, and a filmmaker in that order. I was born in Hawaii to a military family.

Debbie Rochon, often described as a scream queen herself, wrote in an article originally published in Gc Magazine that "a true Scream Queen isn't The Perfect Woman. She's sexy, seductive, but most importantly 'attainable' to the average guy. Or so it would seem." Nastassja Kinski Films: To the Devil a Daughter (1976) [1] Cat People (1982) [2] The Day the World Ended (2001) [3] Inland Empire (2006) [4] Kinski will always be remembered for the iconic photograph shot by Richard Avedon (with a snake coiled around her body) and her role in Paul Schrader's (not so good) remake of Cat People. Needless to say, it was a hit at the box office and Kinski deservingly received a Saturn Award for Best Actress.
