The 80's were dominated by films based on action themes or crude comedies. Qayamat se Qayamat tak (QSQT) came as a whiff of fresh air. The story is simple - there are two warring families and all hell breaks loose when Aamir and Juhi who are from these families fall in love. Basically an Indianised version of "Romeo and Juliet". The beauty of the film lies in the treatment of the theme. This was Aamir's first film , and he looks stunningly innocent. The music is sweet and adds great value to the film. A really pleasant experience.

This is a nice movie from Mansoor Khan.The movie is fresh with new actors and play back singers.The romance was really romantic.The chemistry was nice.The movie tells about 2 rivals(Don't know there namee).Their children's Rashmi and Raj are in love.One day without telling their parents they go to a place.They are the only ones there.They are on a cliff.One day they are found by their parents.The movie is very nice.Aamir perfromed EXCELLENTLY.Juhi too performed EXCELLENTLY.Alok,Dalip,Goga,Asha and Reema supported well.There is a small Aamirs nephew Imran who appears in"Jaane tu Jaane naa"(His debut movie)appears as a child artist.The cinematography is wonderful.The opening scence was quite good.The first half is nice and so is the second half.The music is very good and are sung beautifully by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik.Overall Good movie with Good songs Rating-8/10

Aamir Khan's first movie was HOLI(1984) but he actually shot to fame as a lead in QSQT which also introduced Juhi as a lead after a small role in SULTANAT(1986)
The film was a start for Anand Milind and Udit Narayan Plus it also brought the love story trend and good music back in bollywood
The story was well handled, the eniemity track is well treated and also is the love story bit
The film keeps you involved throughout and the film has several brilliant scenes like the clash between the families, Aamir- Juhi scenes and also their love story and the finale

Of all of Bollywood's 'young' love stories (Bobby, Maine Pyar Kiya, Betaab, etc.) Mansoor Khan's 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' is easily my favorite. Though the story is very familiar (it's "Romeo & Juliet" reinvented for India) there is a tenderness and a freshness to the story which is difficult to articulate. It hearkens a very different era of film-making- there is no gloss to speak of, only story, conflict, and human relationships. Refreshing, yes?
Of course, most people remember QSQT for introducing two young starlets who would go on to become superstars: Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. Aamir, though undeniably charming, is slightly awkward (this actually adds to the performance) contrasting Juhi's more confident and elegant performance. There is no denying that they make a stunning couple, complementing each other as perfectly as other renown on screen pairs. Check out 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' and 'Ishq' for more blazing chemistry.
The other star of the film is the soundtrack: each song is a classic, my favorite being "Aye Mere Humsafar", which is soft, sweet, and perfectly singable. A MUST SEE and a MUST HEAR!

I was in class eighth when I watched this movie. Those were hard times. My father used to stand beside the television on Friday night as Prannoy Roy's "World this week" would come to an end. As the program used to end, my father would switch off the television to make sure I can't even get a glimpse of the following late night Friday night movie.
In such a time me and my sister persuaded my father to go to Durgapur Cinema and watch a children's movie named "Qayamat Se Qayamat tack". 20 years have passed since then. I have watched so many movies of so many languages in the world. But not a single dialog of any of them did influence me as much as this one from QSQT did -> "Hum UN-key Au-lad jar-o-or hay-in, par Jagger Ne-hi". And the last scene hypocrisy of the "majboor Bap" who asks her daughter to pack her bags since "Raj to ate-i hon-gay".
It's unfortunate that our nation hasn't changed much in two decades and still families fight over marriages between different castes, religions etc. In fact it has gone worse in some states like MP where fanatic elements can influence the police to bring kidnapping charges against the groom which finally, as it happened recently, required the intervention of the court to sanction the nuptial bond.
Amir did a real great job.

I remember I was 5 years old when I first saw the film, it was the first Hindi film which I watched and I was spell-bounded. It is the most romantic film ever made in bollywood, the best adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Since this film I have been the biggest fan of Aamir Khan and have watched his each and every film. He was brilliant in the film, looked handsome and acted superbly, the Papa Kehte Hain song made a special place for him in my heart. Juhi Chawla was great too and together they both made a quite cute couple, definitely among one of the best bollywood has seen. All the cast's acting was topnotch be it Raj Zutshi, Dilip Tahil, Alok Nath and the rest. The film scored in ever department like music, cinematography choreography, background score
the works. No one can forget the songs of this film like Aye Mere Humsafar, Ghazab Ka Hai Din, Akele Hain Tu Kia Ghum Hai, the poetic lyrics and haunting tunes of these gems made them timeless. It is one of my most memorable and favorite films. It will not be wrong to say that QSQT is a true classic of Indian Cinema. It came at a time when crass, wild and vulgar action films was order of the day, it brought back romance and melody to bollywood and a whole new wave of romantic films started being made. Eventually the 90's decade was dominated by love stories, in this context it is truly a landmark film in bollywood !

"Qayamat se Qayamat Tak" is an unforgettable picture. It wouldn't be wrong to call QSQT a landmark movie in the history of Indian cinema. A love-story, the type of which can hardly be made again. I t was released in the 80s, when there was a deluge of similar-looking action and formula films. QSQT came in as a real breath of fresh air. It was the ultimate love-story. A story about two warring families, stubborn parents, and despite all this the children of these families fall in love with each other. Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla were relaunched after making respective debuts in "Holi" and "Sultanate", and I don't remember having seen anybody else fresher than these two. Their pair was amazing. Actors and actresses now lack that innocence. There was no sex and no violence, and yet the film had such a wide appeal. Actually, the simple and the innocent approach of the film was it's greatest plus-point. Another big thing contributing to the timeless appeal of the film is it's music. The late Majrooh Sultanpuri's unforgettable lyrics ("Papa kahte hain...", "Aye mere humsafar...", "Ghazab ka hai din..." and all the songs) and col tunes composed by the Anand-Milind duo (why don't they do something like this once again) were matchless. In a nutshell "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" is a movie no true movie-lover should miss.

This movie is the best I have so far seen from the Bollywood (I have seen more than 800 films). I just cannot describe the movie. It is just perfect. Each and every scene, each and every dialog looked perfect. The music, one of the most memorable and the story, just excellent. I have watched the movie more than ten times and so far I have not found even a single mistake or some thing like that which could be said improper. Even the last action scene was so perfect that I have very rarely seen such proper directed scenes. If you have not watched the movie, just watch it now. But remember one thing. There should be complete pin drop silence in the room and no body should talk until the end of the movie.

I have to say, this is one the best movies that I've ever seen with Aamir Khan. He was so young (and so cute!) in this movie but made a big impression. And I also love Juhi Chawla's role in the movie. She's also so sweet in her roles. But I guess it comes natural to her. I adore the songs in this movie. Especially "Papa Kehte Hain" in the beginning at the College dance. Aamir was a great performer! And the chaperones who danced in the film were great too! If anyone who reads this has not seen this movie and happens to love Hindi movies like me, you have got to watch it! You'll start dancing and singing to the songs and have a blast! Hope you love it as much as me! Bye!

One Of The Finest Adaptations Of 'Romeo and Juliet'

Indian cinema has offered so many 'young love stories' like 'Bobby', 'Dil', 'Tezaab', 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye' etc. However, 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' remains my favorite of the lot. It is a somewhat dramatized but humble adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. There have been numerous adaptations but what really makes this film work are the two leads and the music.
I like how the character's were written. Raj isn't the typical macho hero or a romantic, he's just an ordinary young who joined his father's fabric business. Similarly, Laxmi isn't some damsel in distress or a clichéd spoilt brat rebelling against her parents. She's a strong minded young lady who's ready to sacrifice all for her love.
Aamir Khan makes his entry to Indian cinema as leading man. He does nothing short of a brilliant job as the naive young Raj. The fact that he's a newcomer only adds to the character's childlike personality. Juhi Chawla already shows that she's here to stay. Not only is she naturally vivacious but she, in a wonderfully subtle way, displays Laxmi's innocence, childlikeness and determination. It's no surprise that since then Aamir and Juhi have been popular for their on screen chemistry. The supporting cast is adequate where Alok Nath stands out.
Mansoor Khan's direction also deserves mention as he does not waste much time on unnecessary subplots. He stays mainly focused on the story of the two lovers. Only the beginning, where the conflict between the two families begins, appears a little too dramatic and clichéd. But once Raj is introduced, the film takes off towards a better direction. The background score is irritating most of the time.
This was the time when great soundtracks were making a comeback in the commercial Hindi cinema considering that the 80s were infamous for poorest quality in cinema. The songs are soulful, melodious and memorable. After all, who doesn't know 'Papa Kehte Hain', 'Gazab Ka Hai Din' and 'Ae Mere Humsafar'? This is the album that made singer Udit Narayan an overnight star.
To me, 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' is one of the most memorable tragic love stories on the Hindi cinema screen. What makes this film unique is the incredible chemistry between the two leads and their characterization. Simply great!

This film is very special to me - it is the first film that touched me and made me cry. I can't remember the year I saw it in, it was so long ago - but I've been looking for it ever since, and I didn't know the Indian title. So much time had passed that I only remember a few images - the color of the sky in the beginning, Raj and Rashmi kissing before they die, the faces of their parents. Still, I am very excited - now that I've found it, I have to see it again.

Just want to say that this movie was a major breakthrough in the 1980's. When I watched this for the first time, I was 9 years of age and I was living in Pakistan at that time. Very soon after it was released in Pakistan, it became a major hype throughout the neighbourhood. Every kid on the block was singing songs from this movie and it soon channeled itself into my heart as well and make its place there. I would recommend this movie to everybody, regardless of taste because it accomodates all possible tastes. This movie has a lot of aesthetic value for me and its definitely a watcher. Don't miss this one if you haven't already seen it.

One of the most romantic films ever made! A must-see for all those that enjoy quality cinema at its best, without the help of a big-budget or big star names. The film was a runaway success and launched the successful careers of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. The music became hugely popular and the lead stars the heartthrobs of the nation. QSQT also helped to break the back of the action genre during the 1980s and proved romance to be popular amongst cine goers again. Perhaps if it wasn't for the success of QSQT, then other love stories such as Maine Pyar Kiya and Chandni may not have been made or met with the same amount of box-office success.

this was the first Hindi movie i ever saw. i don't know Hindi. an was very small when i saw the movie. Aamir Khan has been my favorite ever since.
Juhi Chawla was very beautiful in this movie. she actually acted very well. and the way the story builds up is amazing, the love story in the flash back builds up the story even more.
it has a very beautiful story with some mind blowing songs, and very good acting, i saw the movie again a few months back. an it managed to make my mouth dry, it still had the effect on me.

This is one of the most admirable movie in 80's era of Indian Cinema. I love this movie and would always watch it over and over again without even a single moment getting bored. This is Ameer Khan and Juhi Chawla's first movie officially. How many films could you count to be the biggest blockbusters for the newcomers. I guess very few countable on your fingers. This one will still stand top among all of those. The love will not diminish even if the death comes and that's been the most awful part of this movie. My first love will always remind me of this movie. Even if the story line is very common and copied in almost every Bollywood movie, it can not be as best as QSQT! If you haven't watched this movie, I'd recommend not to loose more time!

Before you see this film, a bit of confusion might take place. The last name 'Singh' is a very, very common one in India and it is a name most Sikh families use. So, when you hear about a feud between Dhanraj Singh and Randhir Singh, it is NOT a family squabble but a feud between two Sikh families. However, unlike a typical group of Sikhs, both families lack the turbans extremely long hair and beards usually associated with male Sikhs. But, as I pointed out, they are not intended to be from the same family and the average Indian would know this. But, since I live in the USA and many readers are not Indians, I thought I'd include this in case there is any confusion.
"Qayamat se Qayamat Tak" is an Indian remake of Romeo and Juliet set in modern times. However, the film takes a few liberties here and there with the script. It begins with a man becoming engaged. On this day, his lover, Madhu, comes to him to tell him she'd pregnant. He is callous and offers to pay for an abortion and nothing more. She is so despondent that she killer herself. Her family has learned what happened and they are furious. Her brother is so angry, he shows up on the wedding day and murders the faithless jerk.
Time passes. Now, after many years, the killer is set free from prison. He is still naturally bitter about the incident--as is the other family. Clearly, they are feudin' families.
Unfortunately for the two angry and dogmatic patriarchs of the two families, two of their offspring soon meet and fall in love! Raj knows that Rashmi is from his family's enemies--but she is a lovely person. He resists her for some time, but after saving her from a gang of rapists, he gives up and allows himself to fall for her. Rashmi, at first, doesn't know who Raj is--but she, too, is in love.
As far as what happens next, that is rather interesting. Apparently the filmmakers made TWO endings and tried them out with test audiences. The younger people liked a sad ending similar to Shakespeare and the older folks wanted a happy ending. Which version won out? See the film for yourself.
I was surprised by this one. While it was generally a by-the-numbers remake, the film really held my attention and the ending practically made me scream out in surprise! It's an awfully enjoyable flick--one of the better older Indian films I have seen.
Finally, I'd like to say a bit about the DVD packaging for this and many other Indian films. While I love the films, many Indian DVD companies really screw their customers. They force the viewer to watch MANY previews--even AFTER you click to start the movie!! And, you cannot skip over these easily--or at all in some cases. You could end up sitting through a half an hour of previews and ads before the film actually begins! In the case of "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", even after skipping through many commercials, when you click "Start Movie", it won't let you actually see the film! You must go to the chapters section and click on chapter one manually! Additionally, like some other Indian production companies, the songs are NOT captioned!!! It's enough to make me watch Japanese or French films instead!

This is one of the only films that was watched by almost everyone born in the 1980s or early 1990s. This is a classic that reminds everyone of their childhood. More so because of it's spectacular music, I fondly remember how I used to wait for hours for "Chitrahaar" to play 'Papa Kehte Hain...' I still recall that 'Gazab Ka Hai Din' found a special place in my heart when it was played almost ten times during one of my most memorable road-trips, in the early 1990s. Heck; I started to act like Aamir Khan in front of everyone, because this film had made me wild and unstoppable.
Because of QSQT, Bollywood had the pleasure to produce some of the best superstars in Indian cinema - Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik; you name it, these talents may not had been discovered if it was not for QSQT.

I knew this film was a classic and once I saw it I understood why.
All the actors were excellent: the villains and the good guys played their role convincingly. Aamir Khan (so young and handsome) and Juhi Chawla (so beautiful) looked great together. Their love story is sweet and true amidst family rivalry and honour. I thought the scenes between the families and the couple were well balanced without letting one shadow the other.
The songs were fantastic and the music scenes filled me with a warm happy feeling. I was singing the songs well after the film was over.
Qayamat se qayamat tak is a classic, because it has everything going for it: incredible actors, a strong plot and great songs.
All the actors were excellent: the villains and the good guys played their role convincingly. Aamir Khan (so young and handsome) and Juhi Chawla (so beautiful) looked great together. Their love story is sweet and true amidst family rivalry and honour. I thought the scenes between the families and the couple were well balanced without letting one shadow the other.
The songs were fantastic and the music scenes filled me with a warm happy feeling. I was singing the songs well after the film was over.

1.An Ultimate Romantic Movie of 1980's . QSQT . This movie cannot be remake and it gave new direction to Hindi Cinema .
2. The story is about two family rivals. After some years , their kids, fall in love. The film shows about how these 2 lovers fought for their love . The story gave a new height to the romantic era of bollywood movies . Their was freshness in the movie too. Most of the 80's movies were Action , one man army type movie.
3. Its a Must watch movie for the fan of Aamir Khan or Juhi Chawla . Both got famous and their career got boosted with this movie.
