Has The Following's gamble on sidelining Joe and Mark while introducing new players in its third season paid off? To some extent...

3.6 Reunion
Arthur Strauss (Clark Gregg) has gone to ground with Daisy, and he needs a little help to get out of the country. He turns to one student to hole up in an out-of-the-way town in an even-further-out-of-the-way hunting lodge, and he turns to another student, his best student, to help him find a new identity and escape. Meanwhile, Ryan and the FBI are mostly out of criticism again after it is discovered that a brilliant computer hacker got onto the FBI server and planted emails to spread doubt on Arthur Strauss's guilt. Unsurprisingly, those two events—the fake identification documents and the hacked FBI servers—are connected. And the key to the mystery is none other than, you guessed it, Joe Carroll.

The Following gets a double dose this week, as Fox put two characteristically nasty episodes back-to-back...
This review contains spoilers.
3.4 Home & 3.5 A Hostile Witness
There's always a bit of an issue when a show does two episodes back to back. Do you try to stretch a night of watching into two reviews, considering the episodes are technically two separate episodes just on the same night? Or do you just combine the two of them and call it a night much like Fox's programmers did? In a serialized show like The Following, it's not quite the issue it would be on a show that is more episodic, so combining episode 4 and 5, titled Home and A Hostile Witness respectively, seems like the right thing to do even if that would cover a lot of ground in a single review.
There's something to be said for making someone wait for something. Instant gratification is great,...

In the first part of two-hour The Following, "Home," Kyle and Daisy's true plan goes into motion which makes Mark suspicious. The three of them play a game of cat and mouse as the crumbs of the truth are left for Ryan's team to find.
The second hour, "A Hostile Witness," the truth is revealed. Kyle and Daisy used Mark in order to help discredit the FBI, Ryan, and help set Arthur Strauss free.
Both the good and the bad guys made some bad decisions. Check out the questionable and horrible decisions in "A Hostile Witness."...

The writing on "Hostile Witness" was extremely tight and you could feel the tension inside Brenda waiting to explode with her every breath.
With the Johnson Rule behind her - or rather stuck upon her every working moment like a piece of gum on the bottom of her shoe - Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson walked around this episode of The Closer with a whole hive of bees in her bonnet.
As the final six episodes come to a head, the reintroduction of of Phillip Stroh felt like a wicked taunt to from someone wanting to prove Chief Johnson "ain't all that." There were very few cases during the run of The Closer that weren't actually closed.
When the City of Los Angeles forced Brenda to comply and acquiesce to the Johnson Rule, they did more than break her spirit. They broke her faith in the system. She no longer believes...
