- Robert Conrad play a guy who had to leave college while playing on the football team, to take over his father's lumber yard. He has one year of college eligibility remaining and after 20 plus years of successfully running his father's business, sells it to a conglomerate corp. His fortune now made he lets his daughters talk him into taking classes at the local college and finishing his degree. While there, he meets an old classmate from his playing days and gets talked into trying out for the third string quarterback. Well done story and perfect for Conrad as he steps up and rallies the team on for a successful season. His loving wife is worried that he will get hurt or disabled playing the game at his age and begs him to quit before an injury. Unfortunately the writers let the viewers down by having him walk off the field without picking up the school passing record with just a few more passes. He simply walks off the field and goes home with his wife. (He probably held it against her years later and killed her.) Movie ends.
