Drugs and the police
suchenwi4 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This Spanish movie deals with drugs, drug-related crime, and the Madrid police from start to finish. It's the story of a young man (Gumer), who applies for police training as he can't find no other work. The police job doesn't thrill him (and he experiences violent civil disrespect by people in the street, or on the soccer field). Only when his girlfriend disappears, he gets serious, and after many tribulations leading to a chase on top of a monastery, he finally saves her from the evil drug trafficker's.

The film can't pretend to have a big budget, and sometimes seems undecided what it wants to be - thriller? romance? police procedural?

Interesting scenes, as I haven't seen in other movies touch the bombing of the railway station, and a remote-controlled robot.

One last impression - the final credit says: "Film subsidized by Ministry of Culture with 13,200,000.- Ptas." Sounds like much, but with 2001 conversion rates it is about EUR 80,000. Interesting however: was the support due to the anti-drug theme? The EUR 2 I paid at Woolworth's could certainly be spent worse. One plus point is that the DVD comes with the Spanish soundtrack too, so an additional value is as a language sample :)
