Originally titled Bay Coven, it was changed to the name of the title location, Bay Cove, which is a better title for the aspects of a horror/mystery given that the "n" that turns Cove into Coven is a kind of spoiler i.e. Coven refers to what Bay Cove is hiding from the main characters.
Premiered the same night as game 7 of the 1987 World Series where the Minnesota Twins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals to win the championship.
Roger Birnbaum, Peter Guber and Jon Peters are what the DVD cover refers to as being made "by the makers of Batman and Unbreakable". Guber and Peters would go on to produce Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns while Birnbaum would produce Unbreakable.
Most of the cast has TV connections. Pamela Sue Martin left her series Dynasty in season 4; Jeff Conaway also left his show, Taxi, around the third or fourth season; meanwhile, Woody Harrelson was just starting as a replacement on Cheers; Barbara Billingsley was on Leave it to Beaver; Susan Ruttan on L.A. Law; Inga Swenson on Benson; and James Sikking on Hill Street Blues.
As is common with television movies, the cast consists of actors and actresses known for television roles: Pamela Sue Martin, Nancy Drew and Dynasty; Barbara Billingsly, Leave it to Beaver; Jeff Conaway, Taxi; Woody Harrelson, Cheers; James Sikking, Hill Street Blues; Inga Swenson, Benson. And while Tim Matheson was primarily a movie actor, he was a television series child actor.
