POM POM STRIKES BACK is the final instalment of the comedy quartet and sees Richard Ng and John Sham back for another unlikely adventure. The set-up involves a stock situation in which the partners have to protect a young witness from a series of brutal assassins, but the main meat of the story sees Ng incorrectly diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and the shenanigans that arise from that situation. Ng plays it conniving, Sham dopey, but there's something lovable about both them and the supporting players who pop up. Michael Chan Wai-Man has a good role as the merciless assassin and there are some good bits of action here. The comedy is a little bad taste at times, but that never stopped Hong Kong filmmakers.

Pom Pom strikes with best sequel!

This is the third and final sequel to the Hong Kong action comedy series Pom Pom. Richard Ng and John Sham return one last time as detectives Chau and Beethoven, who is on a mission to protect a young girl from a gang boss' henchmen, who are trying to eliminate her so she couldn't testify in court against their boss.

Unlike the previous Pom Pom movies, this film seemed to focus well on the main plot of the detectives trying to protect the girl, resulting in suspenseful action and slapstick comic relief. The subplot of Chau being misinformed he was diagnosis with terminal cancer is added intrigue and blended in well with the main plot, keeping the movie entertaining.

Ng and Sham continue their sometimes frustrated and delightful partnership. The acting is spot-on and not over-the-top. It's another fine Hong Kong comedy and was also a favorite in my childhood days - it's a good one to close out the Pom Pom series.
