The Story: A goofball gym teacher (Mark Harmon) is forced to teach a remedial English class over the summer.
The Players: Starring: Mark Harmon, Kirstie Alley, Dean Cameron, Courtney Thorne-Smith & Shawnee Smith. Music by Danny Elfman. Directed by Carl Reiner.
The History: Hollywood spent a couple of years trying to make Mark Harmon happen as a movie star. Fresh off an arc on “St. Elsewhere” which infamously had his character contract AIDS from a one-night stand, his career was red hot. For a while, he was seriously considered to replace Don Johnson on “Miami Vice” after contract negotiations fell through, and in 1987-88, we got a bunch of starring vehicles that would try him out in a variety of genres to see if one would stick. He did action in The Presidio (even doing his own stunts – although the film was stolen by co-star Sean Connery), drama in Stealing Home,...

Mark Harmon starred in a few notable projects beyond NCIS. Years before he was cast as Jethro Gibbs in the police procedural, Harmon starred in the cult classic comedy Summer School. But he initially wasn’t interested in doing the project, and urged for another star in mind to take his place.

Harmon took a role that many felt was a departure from his usual work in Summer School. The feature was a 1987 comedy movie where Harmon played a high school teacher assigned to a remedial class during the summer. One of the reasons Harmon did the project was because he was intentionally looking for a lighthearted movie to do.

In January of 2022, /Film published a list, ranking feature films about notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. On that list, compiled by author Bee Scott, were 10 films and TV specials about Bundy, revealing a deep and abiding fascination with the sociopath and his crimes. The TV miniseries "The Deliberate Stranger," starring Mark Harmon, depicted Bundy as a charming "face in the crowd" kind of character. Matthew Bright's 2002 feature "Ted Bundy" leaned in a more lascivious direction, depicting the man as a classic "crazed, sex-starved lunatic" archetype.
The most recent Ted Bundy film was Amber Sealy's "No Man of God," a film about Bundy after his arrest and imprisonment. From 1985 up until his execution in 1989, Ted Bundy was visited regularly by an FBI profiler named Bill Hagmaier, who was tasked with something that was novel at the time: figuring out what makes a serial killer tick. It was the first...

After news broke on Tuesday that Willie Garson had died, stars took to social media to pay tribute to the actor who won audiences over as Stanford Blatch in “Sex and the City” and Theodore “Mozzie” Winters in “White Collar,” among other roles.
Garson’s career began in the ’80s, when he played small roles in shows like “Cheers” and appeared in the Ted Bundy TV movie “The Deliberate Stranger.” His profile rose in 1996 when he took on the recurring role of Henry Coffield in “NYPD Blue,” then “Sex and the City” made him a household name in 1998. His character Stanford Blatch was Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker)’s gay best friend, a witty and stylish talent agent. He appeared in 27 episodes between 1998 and 2004. “White Collar” gave Garson one of his first leading roles: Mozzie was the best friend and confidant of Matt Bomer’s character Neal Caffrey. Joe Berlinger speaks about the human story behind his Ted Bundy feature Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile.
Ted Bundy was 32 years old when he was sentenced to death in 1979 for the brutal murders of two Florida State Chi Omega sorority sisters, Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy, as well as three attempted murder charges for Kathy Kleiner, Karen Chandler, and Cheryl Thomas. The trial marked the first time in American history cameras were allowed in a courtroom, and Bundy used that to orchestrate a media circus. Serving as his own counsel, Bundy charmed veteran judge Edward D. Cowart, who called the defendant “a bright young man” with the makings of “a good lawyer.” The judge changed his tune on sentencing, classifying Bundy's crimes as "extremely wicked, shockingly evil, and vile."
Director Joe Berlinger borrowed that classification for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which we caught up...

Zac Efron taking on the role of Ted Bundy is such dead-on casting, it could be the role Zac is ultimately remembered for ... according to the man who defended the infamous serial killer. John Henry Browne, Bundy's lawyer in the '70s and early '80s, tells TMZ ... Efron's background as a charming heartthrob gives him an edge tapping into Bundy's persona -- the smooth talking, good looking guy who seduced young women. That's the easy part,...

Honestly, I have never been much for serial killer films. Though I will gladly watch a supernatural being chop his way through endless campers, and I’ll cheer while a giant monster wipes out half of the eastern seaboard, serial killers just seem a bit too real to feed my larger-than-life horror lust. Whereas I rarely find myself fretting over giant monsters or supernatural being, serial killers scare me. Yet, I totally understand the appeal and fascination behind them. And occasionally, I find my own interests tweaked towards the serial killer fare.
In my brain Mark Harmon had always been a comedy actor. Sure his roles may require drama on shows like Chicago Hope and NCIS. But Mark Harmon’s primary role in my mind was as Gym/English teacher Mr. Shoop in 1987’s Summer School. This great 80’s flick not only was hilarious, but it gave the horror world...

The agents work on an investigation where the foot of a marine is found in a dumpster, with the tattoo, Semper Fi, which is why it's necessary to call in NCIS. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) asks why it's so hard to believe that a woman can find him attractive? And vice versa. Not so hard to believe at all!! Kate (Sasha Alexander) couldn't believe it, especially since Melissa (Stacy Haiduk) was a redhead, but as Tony (Michael Weatherly) said, Gibbs wouldn't get involved with a murder suspect. None of the team would, but this has happened in several episodes. (See ep with Tony and the transsexual in 1.14 Dead Man Talking) Tony's desperate to find the location of Kate's tattoo. What's hard to believe is that Kate would actually have a tattoo. Kate can get drunk. She tells him she's got a heart – a rose on her butt. Gibbs says it's not...
