Sex & Nudity

  • A man tries to make advances towards a girl. She is obviously uncomfortable.
  • A man gives a woman his shirt to cover her naked body, no nudity is visible
  • Two characters start to make out in a hallway. The scene cuts to them having sex, with thrusting seen and overly dramatic moaning heard. A cat suddenly jumps onto them, and they stop. Bare buttocks and breasts are seen as the woman puts her clothes back on.
  • A naked woman is strapped to an operating table. A zombie then proceeds to molest her, and even tries to perform oral sex on her. She screams and cries for help throughout the scene.
  • A woman's breasts are seen as a man performs CPR.
  • A dead man's butt is shown during an operation
  • A brief non graphic scene involving a dead man's butt visible for a few seconds
  • A zombie's testicles are shown for a few seconds, obviously fake and they don't look that much like what they are
  • At the climax of the film, several zombies from the morgue are seen naked in a non-sexual context.

Violence & Gore

  • Herbert decapitates a man with a shovel. He hits him over the head with it, then jams the shovel into his neck several times and pries the head off. One of the most graphic scenes in the film.
  • The dead body of a couple's cat is found stuffed in a refrigerator.
  • A man's eyes inflate and explode. Very gory.
  • A mortician teaches a class about the human brain by preening the skin off of the top of a corpse's head, before using a bone saw to cut the skull open (offscreen) and pull out a sample of the brain. Although it's onscreen and gory, it's not excessively so.
  • Several corpses are seen in a morgue with plastic sheets covering them.
  • A previously dead cat comes back to life and attacks a man. He and another man freak out and bash random objects, and the undead cat is eventually found and thrown against a wall. This kills the cat, and his body is later seen on an operating table with its organs exposed.
  • A disemboweled cat is brought back to life for the second time. It starts convulsing and lets out screeches.
  • Although pretty slapstick and darkly comedic in tone, the goriness of violence is amplified to be as bloody and messy as possible.
  • A zombie is killed when he has a bone saw driven through his chest. Lots of blood and gore.
  • A man is crushed underneath a metal door, and is then pinned against a wall and has his fingers bitten off by a zombie. Very bloody and over the top.
  • A man is resurrected and starts to vomit blood. The zombie then tries to strangle Herbert and another man at the same time.
  • A zombie's torso explodes, spilling blood and guts everywhere. Then, the corpse's intestines come to life and attack a man.
  • A zombie's head is crushed and thrown against a wall. Blood and brain matter is seen.
  • A zombie is dismembered with an axe. Blood splatters on the wall. The severed arm is seen wiggling around on its own afterwards.
  • In a morgue, a man's head is drilled into (to get a sample of brain matter), and has a Q-tip put into the hole. Although onscreen, it is not too graphic.

Profanity

  • 1 use of both bastard and bitch
  • A few graphic profanities, but nothing over the top.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Smoking: None
  • Two men drink glasses of wine in one scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The final fight sequence is very frightening and intense.
  • The scene where a zombie molests and attempts to rape a captive woman may be very triggering for some.
  • Recommended only for viewers who can tolerate gory imagery.
  • This is commonly known as one of the goriest films for its time period. Dismemberment, decapitation, stabbing, impaling, and other forms of mutilation are common sites throughout the movie, especially in the final act.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A man's severed head is brought back to life with the serum. The head begins talking to Herbert, before the headless body sneaks behind him and slams him against the desk. The talking head and headless body become the most frequently seen zombies of the film.
  • At the end of the film, several mutilated corpses come back to life all at once to terrorize the protagonists.
