Typical Rape revenge drama of the '80s

Mera Jawab review :

A precursor to Salman Khan's unreleased Bulund (1992) and Hrithik Roshan's recent hit Kaabil (2017); Mera Jawab had husband avenging his wife's rape by killing the rapists one by one. But unlike Kaabil and Bulund, the couple here is not blind.

Mera Jawab was Jackie - Meenakshi's second film after their super hit Hero (1983) and was highly anticipated by the audience. But the A certificate and excessive violence restricted its universal reach and the film became a average grosser at the ticket windows.

Of the villain trio, Shakti Kapoor left an impression as the gang leader who keeps saying "Baba!!". Gulshan Grover and Shiva Rindani were the sidekicks. By the way, this was Shiva's debut film. Kader Khan played the role of a honest cop for a change..

All in all, a typical maar-dhaad revenge drama of the 80s which appears a bit dated for today. The theme though, is still relevant as is evident from the success of Kaabil.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Not Worth Your Time !!!

This was a terrible movie. So why am I writing about it? There are many reasons. First. It was the second release of the hit onscreen couple, Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Shesadri, after Hero. The expectation was sky high. I did an advance booking to see the movie first-day first-show. What a waste of time. The heroine dies in the first reel of the movie.

Then the revenge and some gory violence that got the movie an 'A' certificate. One kid was such a big fan of Jackie Shroff that he wore a fake mush and beard to enter the Santosh 70MM hall at Abids. He was a better attraction than the movie.

On the plus side, it did have some interesting songs.
