Also on the mix: Eccho Rights’ newest global pickup from Sweden, U.K. Creative Content Eis Fund’s first investment, and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize’s jury announcement.

YouTube superstar Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach is lending his dulset tones to a new podcast from audio studio Qcode -- which is perhaps best known for the apocalyptic thriller Blackout, for which Rami Malek serves as producer and star.
The scripted project is titled The Edge Of Sleep. Fischbach will play a night watchman who discovers that everyone who went to sleep the previous night died, per The Hollywood Reporter, and therefore he must stay awake -- alongside a band of fellow survivors -- in order to solve the mystery. The show will bow on Sept. 24.
The Edge Of Sleep hails from a new label within Qcode dubbed Wood Elf, which seeks to match digital creators with original narrative genre podcasts, according to the Reporter. Fischbach also serves as co-producer of Sleep, which was created by Jake Emanuel and Willie Block. Other voice actors who are rounding out the cast include: Cara Santana,...

Britney Spears slipped into a blue bikini for a day of jet-skiing in Miami on Wednesday, and while I love and respect this decision so, so much, I also really need her to keep this trip short and promptly return to the recording studio to finish her highly anticipated 10th studio album. While Britney looked happy and excited to be bopping around in the ocean, I too wish to be happy and excited . . . while bopping around my apartment to some new Britney songs. All signs seem to point to the singer cooking up something new for fans in 2018, and I'm more than ready.

In January, Britney wrapped up her successful four-year Las Vegas residency, and she has been enjoying the downtime by spending time with her sons, Sean and Jayden, ballroom dancing, and doing sexy workouts with boyfriend Sam Asghari.

Fan-favorite “Call of Duty” multiplayer maps like Nuketown will be back in “Black Ops 4.” Treyarch teased new details about the game’s PvP in a live broadcast on Thursday.
Other familiar maps confirmed during the stream include Jungle, Slums, Summit, and Firing Range — all of which will ship with the standard edition of the game on Oct. 12. Nuketown will go live to all players in November.
The broadcast began with an up-close look at the series’s new take on gunplay, which involves a mix of grounded, old-school mobility and high-tech equipment. Major changes to the mechanics of combat include “predictive recoil,” which allows for greater mastery of specific weapons, and the addition of a self-healing ability. The developer hopes these changes will ultimately create a greater sense of agency and payoff for players by introducing more decision-making into engagements.

There’s nothing like a good mystery, and HBO’s Blackout (1985) has a central premise that’s hard to deny: You survive a car crash, but have no memory of who you were before. Until, 7 years later, someone shows up and insinuates that you were a man who murdered his entire family and then fled. Now, could you go about your life, or would you want to know the truth? And if you were a killer, would that impulse return?
HBO’s original programming was still in its infancy, so the film, which debuted on Sunday, July 28th, plays as a barely more graphic version of a network offering, which is fine anyway; Blackout offers enough story and characterization to diminish any desire for extra blood or sleaze.
Once more, to our faux TV Guide:

An Original Voice
“We didn’t get mad, we got smart,” HBO CEO Michael Fuchs said about hitting The Wall, looking back at HBO stalling in 1984 from the vantage of the early 1990s. Actually, a lot of the rank and file didn’t get mad or smart; we’d seen 125 of our friends and colleagues get shown the door when the company had suddenly flatlined after eight years of phenomenal growth, and what we got was scared.
But it’s to the credit of HBO’s execs that whatever anxieties they may have had, they showed no panic or even nervousness in public. Instead, they poured any concerns into energetically and immediately addressing the question of, “What do we do now?” The world we knew had changed and there was no going back to the Gold Rush days of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The company required a humongous...

Lisa Soltau was living in Seattle when her friend Bonnie Gillespie sent her a book she had written called "Casting Qs," a compilation of interviews with casting directors. "I read it and I absolutely loved all the aspects of the job," says Soltau. "I loved the entertainment industry and movies and television. The process of casting sounded wonderful."She called one of the two casting offices in Seattle and ended up working as an intern there for about six months. But the CD told her she should move to New York or Los Angeles if she really wanted to pursue a career in casting. "I picked L.A. because I had lived there once for about three years and I thought it would be easier to acclimate there," Soltau says. "Plus I wanted to work on 'Six Feet Under,' which was airing at the time.
