Shameless con-artistry galore in clever little flick...
ozjeppe10 December 2001
Inventive, clever and constantly entertaining flick of two oddly paired con artists in 80's Stockholm and their escalating swindle schemes. No serious filmmaking here, just a lot of colourful characterizations and nifty scams... favourite: The Rod Stewart concert!! FUN: Check out Stellan Skarsgård (of such later Hollywood fame such as Good Will Hunting, Deep blue sea, Ronin etc.) in his hippie-ish bum appearance!

Charming, but not great.

Director Hans Alfredson, one half of the very successful Swedish duo Hasse & Tage, once again managed to attract Sweden's entire acting elite for this 1983 remake of the 1933 classic Pettersson & Bendel.

Stellan Skarsgård does a (mostly) good job as Pettersson, and Allan Edwall performs even better as Bendel. Together with a large and very established group of supporting actors, they tell a fairly charming story of two homeless guys who start hustling together.

While the story is competently told and the acting is pretty good, this movie failed to impress me. It is ok, but unfortunately not more than that.
