Andhaa Kaanoon review :
Two superstars in one film - Rajinikanth's Bollywood debut with Amitabh Bachchan in an extended special appearance; Andhaa Kaanoon was a hard hitting action drama featuring Hema Malini, Reena Roy and Madhavi in lead roles. It was a spectacular debut for Rajini Sir and he truly excelled as the avenger who gets bloodshot eyes whenever he recollects the sordid childhood incident of his fathers death and sisters rape in front of his eyes.
Interestingly, the villainous trio who commit this heinous crime are called Amar (Prem Chopra), Akbar (Danny) and Anthony (Pran) in a twisted tribute to the Manmohan Desai classic. Rajini Sir decides to kill them one by one but his biggest nemesis turns out to be his own sister cum tough cop Hema Malini. She is named Devi Singh as a reference to Kiran Bedi. How Rajinikanth commits the murders one by one keeping sis dear at bay forms the crux of the kahaani..
Andhaa Kaanoon had a parallel plot of Mahanayak Amitabh Bachchan cast as a forest officer who lands up in jail for a murder he didn't commit. Losing his loving wife (Madhavi) and little daughter, he completes his jail term and comes out to find that the culprit is now an established politician (Amrish Puri in a cameo). In a chilling scene, Bachchan brutally slaughters Puri in a packed courtroom and confronts the shocked judge saying he cannot be hanged twice for the same crime!! This is one of the highlights of the movie which has Amitabh at his angry best..
Expectedly, Andhaa Kaanoon was a runaway hit and got immense critical acclaim for Amitabh who left a mighty impression even in a small role. The hallmark of a legend!!
