Chief Watts is driving on Highway 41 and he sees a blond boy walking on the other side of the road, going in the same direction. After they talk, the boy starts hitchhiking to get a ride heading in the direction he originally came from.
The first part takes place in 1920, and the second one in 1946. However, some of the character's do not appear to have aged appropriately, especially Sheriff Skeeter Willis, played by Paul Sorvino and racist barber Tommy Allen, played by Leon Rippy.
All of the police officers hat badges are the Pennsylvania coat of arms, except the state troopers hats.
