Remembering Recanati
bob99822 January 2010
Romain Goupil is an actor-director who grew up with a camera in his hand (his father Pierre was a cameraman for many years, best known for his work with Cousteau's team of adventurers). Here he is performing a rite of remembrance of Michel Recanati (1948-78), his comrade in hundreds of demonstrations and acts of defiance from 1967 to 1971. Some of this footage is really striking, never seen before (certainly not by me). You can practically smell the tear-gas going off.

The old footage blends seamlessly with the new. It's a great reconstruction of the still-recent past, that suffers only from our inability to keep track of all the left- and right-wing groups involved, as well as many of the issues they fought over so passionately.
