On Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon announced Tracy Sierra’s Nightwatching as the official read of the 2024 Jimmy Fallon Book Club.
In late March, The Tonight Show rolled out its own “Sweet Sixteen” of novels and asked viewers to choose which titles would make it to the next round. In the end it came down to two titles: Sierra’s debut novel, a terrifying home invasion thriller, and Kristen Perrin’s How to Solve Your Own Murder, a cozy mystery about a teenager who is told by a fortune teller she is going to be murdered—and who then spends the next several decades attempting to prevent the crime from happening in the first place.
Over the course of two weeks, approximately 1 million people voted and picked Sierra’s book as the one to devour—though it was a razor-thin race.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” is growing up before our eyes — her Sweet Sixteen season is scheduled to debut on January 5, 2024 on MTV. This time around, the ages of the 14 drag queens range from 24 to 34. They come from every corner of the U.S. — from New York to Florida to California — with one being born in Mexico and another hailing from Taiwan. Note that the winning contestant who survives all of the “sashay aways” will take home an eyebrow-plucking $200,000 grand prize.
Host RuPaul Charles is once again joined on the judges’ panel by Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Ts Madison. In a new twist, this cycle will allow the participants to rank each other’s challenge performances in a “Rate-a-Queen” segment, and that will determine how they’ll all be sorted into the tops and the bottoms of the week.
Companion series “Untucked” will once again air after “Drag Race” every Friday night on MTV.

Berlin-based producer/distributor Dcm has taken a sake in Wim Wenders’ production company Road Movies, creating an “equal, strong partnership” between the two firms, Wenders and Dcm said Friday.
Dcm, which has released several of Wenders’ films in Germany, including the Oscar-nominated Perfect Days, will buy into Road Movies in the first quarter of this year. Dcm partners Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny and Joel Brandeis described the move as a strategic expansion of the company’s film production business. Schmidheiny will be named Road Movies’ managing director.
Schmidheiny described the partnership as “a dream come true,” saying Dcm would handle the financial and day-to-day management of Road Movies to “to create the space for Wim to bring his seemingly inexhaustible creative power to the screen.”
“It has been on the agenda for years that we would work together with a strong partner,” said Wenders. “As Road Movies, we...

It’s 2010, and Gemma Arterton is describing to Empire Magazine having spent an entire day shooting kidnap thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed in tears. “Your body’s not supposed to cry that much. It is exhausting.” Martin Compston, her co-star in the crying scene, agrees in earnest and the interviewer jokes off-camera, “So what you’re saying is: feel-good hit of the summer?”
Compston laughs, “Yeah, Disney Channel!” and Arterton repeats the gag, shaking her head at its ridiculousness “Disney Channel!”
13 years, a brand shift and a streaming revolution later, and Disney is now the UK home of The Disappearance of Alice Creed. Disney+ is also the UK home of writer-director J Blakeson’s latest collaboration with Arterton: TV thriller Culprits, which is out on Hulu in the US.
That eight-part series is the story of consequences catching up with the diverse crew who pulled off a mega-money heist years earlier.

The “Tiana” animated series in the works at Disney+ has enlisted Joyce Sherri as the show’s lead writer and director, Variety has learned exclusively.
The musical project was originally announced in 2020 during a Disney investor day. The series has previously been described as a followup to the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog,” which introduced the character of Tiana. Anika Noni Rose will once again provide the voice of Tiana. The series was originally expected to debut in 2023 but is now said to be launching in 2024.
Sherri’s most recent TV writing credit was on the Netflix horror miniseries “Midnight Mass” from Mike Flanagan. She has also written and directed short films like “Beauty,” “Forever,” “Down, Down, Baby” and “The Family Romance.” She also won the 2020 Slamdance screenplay competition for her feature, “Sweet Sixteen,” and was selected for the 2021 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive.

What if a killer time traveled with you to thwart your plan of saving your mother whom he had already killed? Yes, that’s exactly what happens in the movie, but it’s not so simple as there is a twist to it. Totally Killer, the new film, has horror, comedy, and action, and if you weren’t satisfied, it has a whole time travel plot that will remind you of the great films on this topic. With a mix of the plots of Terminator and Back to the Future, director Nahnatchka Khan creates her own style of slasher, innovatively recreating the eighties mood. In essence, Totally Killer is a slasher, and hence makes use of the fact that slashers usually surprise us with the second killer.

A time traveler moves a chair, and the whole timeline is altered. You must have seen this meme online. The new film Totally Killer makes the right choice to not overcomplicate things. Sure, when Jamie Hughes accidentally goes back to 1987, and tries to alter things, a few significant things do get changed, but they are not overwhelmingly altered. Also, her main focus was not to change the romance between her parents when they were in high school, but to stop a serial killer who began his hunt in 1987. See, it’s all a bit complicated, but it could have been disastrous if it hadn’t been handled with care by director Nahnatchka Khan. The idea is great on paper, and with a clear vision for Totally Killer, Khan manages to merge the sci-fi and slasher genres together to come up with great characters.

There's a killer on the loose, and they're totally rocking the '80s. Like, seriously!
Amazon Prime Video's newest slasher, Totally Killer, is a sci-fi horror-comedy that takes what we love of the '80s and mixes it with a time travel twist. Think of it like a mix of Happy Death Day and Scream but in a B-movie VHS tape.
Compared to those two slashers having a solid point of view, Totally Killer was just another slasher on the block. It was a bloody, fun ride, albeit a messy one with its B-horror movie characters and inconsistent plot.
Totally Killer captures the exaggerated tone of the '80s, especially in campy horror flicks. Plenty of big hair, big colors, and bigger personalities make up the world.
But what helps the movie stand out is the self-aware nature of Jamie Hughes (played by Kiernan Shipka of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina...

It’s the spooky season, and teen thriller Totally Killer looks to satisfy that itch for scares. But what appears to be a horror film spoof at first, suddenly morphs into a mash-up of Halloween and Back To The Future, when a sixteen-year-old girl goes back in time to the 1980s to solve a Halloween triple killing by the “Sweet Sixteen Killer.”
A Halloween – Back To The Future mash-up isn’t a bad idea but that idea gets bogged down in 1980s nostalgia that sucks the energy out of the horror scares, and even the humor, like a vampire. Do you long for the ’80s? Even if you don’t remember them? Well, someone wanted to revisit that era of big hair, big shoulders, garish fashions and John Hughes films, so we get Totally Killer.

The easiest way to describe Totally Killer is by listing all the other movies it calls to mind. Plot-wise, it’s a Back to the Future-style time travel adventure crossed with a Halloween-inspired slasher, all cast in a Scream-lite sense of self-awareness; tonally, its mashup of comedy and horror lands in the same general area as The Final Girls or the Happy Death Day movies.
If it its ingredients feel familiar, however, the script (by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver and Jen D’Angelo) injects them with just enough heart and humor to keep them from feeling stale. Totally Killer may not be destined to become a classic in its own right. But the Amazon release is fun enough for a spooky season night in.
Its unwitting Marty McFly is Jamie (Kiernan Shipka), a stereotypically rebellious teenager whose stereotypically overprotective parents (Julie Bowen and Lochlyn Munro) have more reason than most to be paranoid: 35 years ago,...

We just can’t get over the 80s. And with killer music, killer movies, and killer… killers – why would we? Totally Killer, directed by Nahnatchka Khan, catapults us right back into that beloved decade. The time travel slasher comedy Totally Killer is scheduled to begin streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video on October 6th, but today, one week out from the release, the marketing department has unveiled a clip from the film that I would have deemed too much of a Spoiler to show off. But showing it off they are, so I have embedded it above. This scene shows the masked murderer know as the Sweet 16 Killer crossing paths with Liana Liberato from Scream VI, but if you don’t want to know how that encounter turns out, avert your eyes.
Nahnatchka Khan (Always Be My Maybe) directed Totally Killer from a screenplay by Hocus Pocus 2 writer Jen D’Angelo, based on an original script by David Matalon (The Clearing) and Sasha Perl-Raver (Let’s Get Merried). The story follows Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) whose mom, Pam, is terrorized by the resurgence of the Sweet Sixteen...

In addition to working with slasher icon Michael Myers on the three most recent Halloween movies, Blumhouse Productions has introduced audiences to maniacs like The Grabber from The Black Phone, The Butcher from Freaky, Babyface from Happy Death Day, Lady Liberty from The Purge: Election Year, Pooka from Into the Dark: Pooka! Next up from them is the Sweet 16 Killer, the masked murderer that will be featured in the time travel slasher comedy Totally Killer, which is scheduled to begin streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video on October 6th. With that date just a month away, they have given us an early introduction to the Sweet 16 Killer with a newly unveiled image and a promo video, both of which can be seen at the bottom of this article.

In The Old Oak, an English man and a Syrian woman become unlikely friends on one side of a simmering culture war. It’s the latest from Ken Loach and, if reports are true, it will be the 86-year-old director’s last. The Old Oak is, of course, a timely story about modern Britain, immigration, and xenophobia. It’s also a parting statement from Loach––one last rallying cry for solidarity––and a fitting coda to his six-decade long career.
It’s hard to imagine that Loach first made his name in 1964: viewers who watched Cathy Come Home on the BBC that week could have seen “Good Vibrations” go to number 1 on Top of The Pops. Seen by a quarter of the population, it in fact did change British attitudes towards homelessness. Occasionally to the point of self-parody, Loach has never stopped making that kind of film: stories purpose-built...

The 1970 edition of the Cannes Film Festival was noted for giving rise to several bold new voices. Robert Altman arrived as an established (and notoriously troublesome) TV director but left a Palme d’Or winner with M*A*S*H, his launchpad to becoming one of the most pivotal figures of contemporary cinema. In the Directors’ Fortnight competition, then a year old, the German absurdist comedy Even Dwarfs Started Small gave audiences a hint of what a 20-something festival first-timer named Werner Herzog might have up his creative sleeve.
Over in the Critics’ Week sidebar, a rising English director named Ken Loach also was making his Cannes debut (like Herzog with his second feature).
The bespectacled 33-year-old had arrived as part of what he describes as a “rather snooty” U.K. delegation that didn’t have much time for someone then known for hard-hitting TV docudramas and not considered part...

Ken Loach has said that The Old Oak, his latest feature, will be his last. Probably.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of what will mark his 15th film premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, the veteran filmmaker, who turns 87 in June, acknowledged that “realistically, it would be hard to do a feature film again.
“Films take a couple of years and I’ll be nearly 90,” he said. “And your facilities do decline. Your short-term memory goes and my eyesight is pretty rubbish now, so it’s quite tricky.”
Loach said that while he had little issue on The Old Oak dealing with the physical demands of long working days required during production, it has become harder to sustain, “with good humor,” the “nervous emotional energy” he needs to set the tempo during a shoot and to keep that momentum going.
Loach, of course, has “retired” before. When he brought...

The most iconic moment in Starz‘ beloved cult comedy Party Down never actually happened. But with the long-awaited arrival of Party Down season 3 on Friday, Feb. 24, it just might. Allow us to explain.
In Party Down‘s 2009 pilot, it finally became clear to struggling actor Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) that fame and fortune probably just wasn’t in the cards for him. So Henry resigned himself to a life of “slinging ‘doeuvres” with the rest of the Party Down crew, themselves all failed entertainers as well.
Unlike his Party Down peers, however, Henry did enjoy one fleeting moment of success. It came in the form of a beer commercial that went viral for Henry’s enthusiastic delivery of the line “Are we having fun yet?” The fabled “Are we having fun yet” commercial is referenced in Party Down‘s very first episode when a reveler at the Willow Canyon Homeowners...

It came as no surprise when Party Down was cancelled. The year was 2010, and the scrappy, glowingly reviewed sitcom about an LA catering company had languished in obscurity for 20 episodes before finally calling it quits. Its paltry viewing figures – dipping as low as 68,000 US viewers for one episode – didn’t help. Nor did the fact that the Starz network was still in its unsteady early days of original programming. To cap this off, Party Down had already seen one cast member, Jane Lynch, leave at the end of season one; the end of season two would see lead Adam Scott poached by Parks and Recreation on NBC. So, all things considered, cancellation was somewhat inevitable. Its revival, though? That’s another story. The six new episodes of Party Down – released weekly on Starz in the US and Lionsgate+ in the UK, beginning this Friday – seemed, for a long time, a mere pipedream.

A review of tonight's "Parks and Recreation" coming up just as soon as I have a strong opinion on pockets... Though all of this season's episodes were made before NBC decided to air two a week, it's been eerie how often it's felt like the various double features were designed to run together. And as the one episode of the season to air without a companion (because thirteen divided by two equals six and a half), "Donna and Joe" felt designed to have as much plot as any two previous episodes combined. Technically, there were only three basic stories, as there tend to be in most "Parks" episodes: the wedding of the two title characters, Jen Barkley returning to talk Ben into running for Congress, and Ron inadvertently causing tension in Tom and Lucy's relationship. But any "Parks" wedding episode — and these were by far the most traditional nuptials the...
