Sex & Nudity

  • Two men in a Mini pick up a woman hitchhiker off the road. The woman, Shirl, informs the men, Gerry and John, that she is a virgin. Gerry makes a bet with John that Shirl will have lost her virginity to him by the time they reach the town of Wanganui.
  • Gerry has sex with Shirl while restraining her in the back seat of the Mini (this is not shown, but implied: the parked car is seen moving and rocking from outside). A discussion follows as to whether or not the sexual encounter counted as Shirl losing her virginity; she insists it was non-consensual and therefore rape, but Gerry disagrees.
  • It is implied that Shirl has had sex with a drug dealer; she is shown waking up in the man's bed, covered by a sheet (no nudity shown).
  • Gerry covers the inside walls of a boxcar with pictures of naked women posing suggestively, which are visible in the background of scenes in the boxcar.
  • It is implied that Gerry and Shirl have slept together in the boxcar during the night; they are shown the next morning in bed together, covered by a sheet. Gerry intends to have sex with her again, but she interrupts to give him something. Her bare breasts are briefly visible for one shot in this scene.
  • A police officer pulls over a woman driver and they proceed to have sex in his patrol car (no nudity shown); it is then revealed that they already know each other and are acting out a sexual role-playing game.
  • John reunites in Invercargill with his wife who left him at the start of the film, and they have sex; they are shown naked on her bed in an embrace.
  • When the police arrive to arrest John, he walks out of the house naked; there is a brief full frontal nude shot of him in which his genitals are visible at a distance.

Violence & Gore

  • A man whom Gerry and John meet appears to be holding a woman hostage in his home. She is completely unresponsive, and it is unclear whether or not he has abused her. The man threatens Gerry with a gun.

Profanity

  • Several uses of "bitch" in reference to women.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Depiction of drug use is fairly pervasive in this film. The characters are shown smoking marijuana in many scenes, and there is some interaction with drug dealers.
