Corny, but not dislikable.
gridoon31 October 2002
Corny sci-fi about a family of aliens (they look A LOT like us humans) who find themselves stranded on Earth, chased by the usual government officials, protected by an old man and his orphaned grandson. Strictly kid's stuff, but it has some appeal. The effects are mostly of the "well, at least you can't see the strings" variety, but the film is still interesting as a precursor to "E.T". For a somewhat similar flick that will really surprise you, try "D.A.R.Y.L". (**)

Burl Ives Conquers the Martians....
Mister-615 August 1999
No, actually, this isn't as bad a film as most people let on. Surprisingly, since this was released by the same people who brought us "Hangar 18" and "In Search of Noah's Ark".

Not exactly a good omen.

But with this tale of a stranded alien family, complete with a chimpanzee spray-painted green (ah, the sacrifices of art), trying to adapt to Earthling ways with the help of kindly old Burl Ives, it's actually a kind of meat-headed feel-good movie geared for the younger crowd. And it works well in that regard.

At least it knows when to go for the laughs. This is the only kind of movie in this genre I know of that ends with the line, "A green monkey ate my light bulb!"

Gotta love it.

Seven stars.

If the rental place is out of "ET", try "Earthbound".

Ahhhh, I loved those times back then.:)

If only I could live them again.:)

jenniferlynrobbins17 November 2005
I can remember going to the theater to see this as a little girl and thought it was the best movie ever! To this day I remember bits and pieces about the spaceship underwater and the aliens having the ability to disappear! I remember the family trying to hide the aliens in a camper. I remember sitting in the theater and not wanting the movie to end! I would love for my kids to be able to see this too! It would be great to see this one again!! Help me find it please. I have looked online at numerous places but I can not find where I can buy this movie. Unfortunately I can't find this movie anywhere! If anyone knows where to buy or even rent it, please post it and let me know! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....I have to find this one!

Earthbound the next generation
PMWaight13 July 2004
I thought Earthbound was FANTASTIC. It lacked the profanity and adult themes that so many of the shows of today are filled with. It was just a FUN movie. It would be nice to see a remake of this movie: where 25 years later they discover the ore needed for the repairs, salvage their ship from the lake bottom , make the needed repairs and return home. Upon their return, to their home planet, they discover that as wonderful as it might be their world is now "alien" to them and Earth has truly become their home. The new movie would close with their spaceship landing back on Earth-"Home"!!! PM Waight

mother 3 was better

Like lets be honest it improved on the gameplay in every way. Rhythm battles create a sense of tension, although earthbounds modern setting could be viewed as an upside.

why I liked the film
Mal-1826 May 1999
I was surprised on how bad the reviews were on this movie. When I saw it on television I remember being glued to the set. I always hated my English professor when he points out my errors in writing. Instead of enjoying the story they point out all the technical errors. I believe if you watch the film with the intent on enjoying it, then you will. It's that simple. I especially liked it because the aliens helped Tommy deal with the loss of his parents.
