Sex & Nudity

  • The film is set in Times Square in the year 1980 and the decadence of the district is quite clear. Porno cinemas and strip clubs (with advertising featuring naked women) can be seen in the background during the night scenes.
  • In one scene, Pamela and Nicky run through a porno cinema to escape the police. The screen they run under is showing an actual porn film from the time. While the brief footage used on the porno is non-explicit, it's clear the female porn star is straddling a man.
  • Nicky gets Pamela a job as a waitress/dancer at a shady bar. They lie about her age. Her 'job interview' is performing a catwalk dance in an exotic dress. She is later seen serving customers in the same dress and dancing suggestively to background music. This is made worse by Trini Alvarado (Pamela's actress) being 13-years-old at the time.
  • According to the director of the film, there are several scenes cut from the film that suggest Pamela and Nicky's lesbian attraction toward each other.
  • A woman can be seen dancing in the shady club where Pamela gets some work. The woman is topless and wearing a thong. Her bare breasts can be seen for a few seconds.

Violence & Gore

  • Pamela's father grabs Nicky by her shirt and threatens her in one scene.
  • Pamela's father gets angry while looking for his daughter at Johnny LaGuardia's radio station. He chases Johnny around and smashes up the place.
  • Nicky uses Pamela as bait in order to mug a random man on the street. She aims a small handgun at his face but Pamela laughs and the two girls end up walking away in embarrassment.

Profanity

  • Frequent swearing, including uses of 'f**k', 's**t', and much more.
  • Some uses of homophobic and racial slurs.
  • Nicky and Pamela's stage name is the 'Sleaze Sisters' and their signature song is called 'Damn Dog'.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Nicky ends up having a nervous breakdown and gets drunk.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole film deals with two misfit teenage girls - one suffering from low self-esteem and depression, and the other a social outcast who disdains authority - in their attempt to console each other in a world that doesn't understand them. The film touches on various topics, including self-harm, loneliness, exploitation, parental neglect and depression.
