Right now in the UK and the Us people are using the Covid-19 production shutdown to power ahead with script development, ready to film as soon as it’s possible again. That can’t happen here if content quotas are dismantled and creative people are left reeling from months without financial support.
Our screen industry was already being squeezed by reduced funding and by the distorted economic shape that the streaming giants create for a country like ours. Things were already precarious. And now this.
The result of current policies will mean that for years and years after Covid, our screens will be flooded with overseas content – most of it American,...

New Delhi, April 6: TV actress Usha Nadkarni, popular for playing a sweet-and-sour mother-in-law in "Pavitra Rishta", will now play a 'sutradhar' (narrator) for a weekend special of "Kairi - Rishta Khatta Meetha".
"Kairi...", aired on Colors, is a story of the clash between a tyrant mother-in-law Imarti Devi (Hema Singh) and a loving, yet rebellious daughter-in-law Ambi (Preeti Chaudhary).
Usha, a veteran in the industry, will be seen narrating a recap of the week on the weekend special -- "Kahani Ab Tak" of the show.
Having played a 'saas' on the small screen, perhaps she fits the role of a 'sutradhar' for a show like "Kairi..." very well.
Recently, Colors roped in actor Om Puri to play narrator to the weekend.

New Delhi, July 13 – When film critic Rajeev Masand called Bollywood star Akshay Kumar a ‘jackass’ on a social networking site, guess who stood up in arms against him? Megastar Amitabh Bachchan!
Following comments on Akshay’s visit to ailing cartoonist R.K. Laxman at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai Sunday, Masand posted on his Twitter page: ‘Need innovative ideas to promote films in competitive times. But Akshay Kumar grinning like a jackass at R.K. Laxman’s hospital bed is a new low.’
Akshay’s gesture was seen as a marketing gimmick for his upcoming film ‘Khatta Meetha’, in which he plays.

Director Priyadarshan is launching South Indian actress Trisha in Bollywood with his Akshay Kumar starrer Khatta Meetha. Trisha’s role in the film will be more challenging than the roles that have been played by heroines in a Priyadarshan film. It requires her to play two characters in different time periods.
Trisha was launched in Tamil movies too by Priyadarshan with his Leysa Leysa. Khatta Meetha promises to be a family film, kind of similar to Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films. This is the first time a heroine in a Priyadarshan film will have such an important role..
