Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.
But if documentaries aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty of popular films hitting Max in April, like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,...

Glenda Jackson, the British actress who hit the snooze bar on her acting career for a 23-year career in politics, died on Thursday, as per her representatives. During her peak years in the 1970s and 80s, she won two Oscars (and was nominated for two more) and two Emmy Awards. She was nominated for four Tony Awards, finally winning one in 2018 after a late-in-life career resurgence. She was 87 years old.
Jackson, whose father was a bricklayer and whose mother was a barmaid and domestic, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She was told by the academy’s principal that, due to her looks, she would likely only find work as a character actress, and she shouldn’t depend on getting jobs after 40.
This proved to be the opposite of true. Her big break came when experimental theater director Peter Brook cast her in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s groundbreaking adaptation of “Marat/Sade.

Glenda Jackson, the two-time Oscar winner who walked away from a hugely successful acting career to spend nearly a quarter-century in the U.K. parliament, only to make a comeback on the stage, died Thursday. She was 87.
Jackson died peacefully after a brief illness at her home in Blackheath, London, and her family was at her side, her agent Lionel Larner said in a statement. “Today we lost one of the world’s greatest actresses, and I have lost a best friend of over 50 years,” he said.
She recently completed filming The Great Escaper opposite Michael Caine, Larner noted.
The British actress collected a slew of honors that included best actress Academy Awards for Women in Love (1969) and A Touch of Class (1973); two Emmys for her performance as Elizabeth I in the BBC miniseries Elizabeth R (a role she also played in the 1971 film Mary, Queen of Scots); and a...

Allen Baron, who helmed episodes of such TV series as Charlie’s Angels The Love Boat and The Brady Bunch, is being sued by his former personal assistant, who alleges a laundry list of misconduct ranging from sexual harassment and religious discrimination to retaliation and wrongful termination.
Among other things, Anna Dey accuses Barn, now 91, of becoming sexually aroused after taking erectile-dysfunction medication on multiple occasions and then asking her to “touch his penis.” She said it would happen “anytime that he was undressed and alone with Dey. Her suit also claims Baron once “masturbated and ejaculated into a towel and threw the towel on [her] in a belittling and disrespectful manner.”
The lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court (read it here) also claims Baron regularly bragged about his sexual exploits, which purportedly included sleeping with then-Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett. “Baron also claimed to have forced numerous...

At 82 years old, Glenda Jackson shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh off her Tony Award winning triumph in “Three Tall Women,” the acting legend has already lined up her Broadway return. And it’s a doozy.
Next spring, Jackson will play the title role in William Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” It’s a part that’s widely considered to be one of the most demanding and challenging ever written, requiring a formidable stamina and the ability to move from scenes of tenderness to ones of full-throttle rage.
The show is being backed by superstar producer Scott Rudin, the man behind Oscar-winning hits such as “No Country for Old Men” and stage blockbusters such as the current revival of “Hello, Dolly!”
Jackson already has a full trophy case, having picked up two Oscars and two Emmys, but the role of Lear could bring her another Tony. She was nominated for...

Excitement is building over the pilot for cop series reboot Cagney & Lacey, which is set to star Grey Anatomy’s Sarah Drew as Christine Cagney and Blindspot’s Michelle Hurd as Mary Beth Lacey, a pair of New York City police detectives who couldn’t be more different. One of the people feeling that excitement is actress Sharon Gless, who played Cagney against Tyne Daly’s Lacey in the original series from the 1980s. “First of all, imitation is the highest form of flattery, so it’s quite flattering if they want to do it again," Sharon says in this exclusive chat from her Florida home. "It’s certainly time. I haven’t seen any of what they’re doing, but my feeling is that if you do Cagney & Lacey in this day and age, you could make it much darker than we were allowed to in the ‘80s.

46 years ago today, history was made on an episode of “The Tonight Show.” Novelty singer Tiny Tim — known for his ukulele playing and falsetto voice — married Miss Vicki on Johnny Carson’s talk show. It was the most-watched episode of Carson’s “Tonight Show” until his finale. Before televised celebrity weddings became a common occurrence, this was a wholly new spectacle. 45 million viewers tuned in for the event. (Compare that to a meager 4 million viewers watching Kim Kardashian’s much-publicized 2011 wedding to Kris Humphries.) Other notable December 17 happenings in pop culture history: • 1965: Judy Garland and The Supremes became first artists to perform at the Astrodome in Houston, Tex. • 1971: “Diamonds Are Forever,” the seventh Eon Productions James Bond film, opened in U.S. theaters. • 1976: “Freaky Friday,” starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, had its theatrical release. Glenda Jackson: Actress and former Labour MP. Two-time Oscar winner and former Labour MP Glenda Jackson returns to acting Two-time Best Actress Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson set aside her acting career after becoming a Labour Party MP in 1992. Four years ago, Jackson, who represented the Greater London constituency of Hampstead and Highgate, announced that she would stand down the 2015 general election – which, somewhat controversially, was won by right-wing prime minister David Cameron's Conservative party.[1] The silver lining: following a two-decade-plus break, Glenda Jackson is returning to acting. Now, Jackson isn't – for the time being – returning to acting in front of the camera. The 79-year-old is to be featured in the Radio 4 series Emile Zola: Blood, Sex and Money, described on their website as a “mash-up” adaptation of 20 Emile Zola novels collectively known as "Les Rougon-Macquart."[2] Part 1 of the three-part Radio 4 series will be broadcast daily during an...

As Fallon says, "You've got parades, you've got large crowds of people, you've got bars opening at 10 a.m., what could possibly go wrong?
Here are a few highlights:
Pro: "It's a nonstop party with drinking from morning 'til night."
Con: "It's basically like attending a Rob Ford Fantasy Camp."
Pro: "St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland by playing his flute."
Con: "I do the same to party guests whenever I take out my acoustic guitar."
Pro: "Ordering green eggs and ham."
Con: "Or as Waffle House calls it, 'eggs and ham.'"
Pro: "St. Patrick's Day falls on Monday."
Con: "Then it gets back up, falls again, stumbles around and says, 'I'm fine,' then vomits and passes out.

McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision has continued it's streak of prolific TV development. Deadline reports that the company has sold three projects to ABC, NBC, Fox and the CW, and also has several comedy and reality pitches in the works. McG is also set to direct his first pilot since 2007's Chuck. The company has 3 series on the air this coming season, with Chuck, Supernatural and Nikita. The company is based at Warner Bros. I haven't been this excited for a new show since AMC premiered "The Walking Dead" last fall, and frankly, I'm way more intrigued by the imagery being throw around by FX for "American Horror Story," which comes from the brains behind "Glee". Sure, we've seen rubber latex fetishes and a baby pressing on a mother's belly from inside the womb, but how much do we really know. That's the best part about "American Horror Story," is how well they've shrouded the new series, premiering October 5, in secrecy. And while they keep us in the dark, more and more viral fun has begun to spring up, like the following "House Calls" campaign that sounds more terrifying than fun (which Is fun in my book).

As the tape continues, Afsoun collapses with heart problems, and House orders his team to place her in a hyperbaric chamber to treat possible carbon monoxide poisoning. At a coffee shop, Cuddy is approached by her sister's friend Jerry, but she nervously rejects his advances. House calls her to his hospital bedside to return some of her belongings.

Anatomy of a Relationship
An Episodic Examination of Huddy in Love
“After Hours” – 7.22
Wow! What an amazing episode. Absolutely amazing. And we learned a bunch of helpful things as well. We learned that most decisions we make will have long-lasting consequences. We learned that it’s important to put your trust in the right person. And we learned that performing invasive medical procedures at home is Never a good idea.
And my favorite thing about this episode? I, the writer of a blog dealing with the Huddy relationship, once again have new Huddy relationship material to write about! Hooray! Okay, into the deep end of this cool pool.
This episode takes place entirely after all our beloved characters have headed home for the day. There is no case. There are no board meetings. Just personal life. And that gets less than relaxing very quickly. 13 has a prison pal show up on her front step.

Looks like there'll be no more House calls for Amber Tamblyn. The actress will be checking out of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital at the end of the season to headline a pilot in which she'll play a public school teacher.
While attending the 32nd College Television awards, Tamblyn outlined the circumstances surrounding Dr. Martha Masters' departure. "She's going to potentially ...

First and foremost, I would like to put one thing on the table before I officially start this review of the 'Tea' episode of MTV's Skins. I'm trying my best to deviate away from 1) comparing MTV's Skins with the original UK series and 2) not mention the "controversy" surrounding the content of the show in the past week since it's premiere. The problem is that it's extremely hard to do so, especially with this episode, because of a) this episode clearly helps make the American Skins it's own show and b) the episode content is not what the PTC and other naysayers are claiming the show to be. In order to prove both sentiments, I have to compare and contrast the elements that are for and against this show. I promise to try harder to help give MTV's Skins the identity it deserves by helping bring it out of its big brother's shadow.

The episode begins as Abbey gives birth on camera. However, the baby experiences breathing problems and Abbey's daughter Justine is ordered by the nurses to switch of the camera. Later, House presents his team with the baby's case. Cuddy interrupts, asking House to babysit Rachel while she works late at a board meeting. House speculates that the baby's lung problems could be caused by liver failure, with plasma leaking into the lungs. His team depart, but he tells Foreman to remain, offering him the opportunity to hire a new female doctor. That night, House neglects Rachel to watch television, lying to Cuddy on the phone that he is checking on the child every ten minutes. When Rachel wakes up and refuses to return to bed, House calls Wilson, asking, "Up for a boys' night in?" Taub scans the baby's liver and notices dilated bile ducts. House's team (more)...

House – Anatomy of a Relationship
An Episodic Examination Of Huddy In Love
“Unwritten” 7x03
This episode, about a suicidal tween mystery writer, helps us to better understand how House thinks about his relationship with Cuddy and just about any other human. As House tries to solve both the writer’s mysterious illness and the underlying cause of the writer’s depression we see that like just about everything else in his world House has kinda pessimistic view of relationships.
For those fans who feared that Huddy would take over the series, this episode should calm their fears some. We (unfortunately) get no physical affection. All the action takes place out of the bedroom. We get a solid medical mystery, fun interaction with the regulars, humorous exchanges and a bit of Huddy. A perfect episode, in my humble opinion. We also learned a bit more about House.
Fortunately, it looks as...

Rehab. Show on unplanned hiatus. Criminal charges. House calls from child services. But it's not all bad for Charlie Sheen. Despite a RadarOnline report claiming that Aspen District Attorney Arnold Mordkin had refused any kind of plea deal in Sheen's domestic violence case, the prosecutor insists to E! News that he hasn't ruled anything out. "If there is any report that says I said that, that report is not attributable to me," says Mordkin. "I don't know who said that, but I did not. [Radar] should be ashamed of themselves. "It is a felony charge; one never knows what a plea deal will do," Mordkin adds, saying the case won't be argued in the court of public...

When the White House calls, you sorta, kinda, have to rearrange the schedule and make room for a command performance. That's what's going on with Fox's hit show, 'Glee.' The First Lady and the First Daughters are big fans of 'Glee' and, according to Michael Ausiello in Entertainment Weekly, 'Glee's' been asked sing at the White House Easter Egg hunt on April 5. So despite the shooting schedule, they're going to rework things to meet the Obamas.
The 'Glee' singers are hot, hot, hot... and you can just see how Sasha and Malia are their target demographics, can't you? Michelle, too. Frankly, they don't need the eggs to get the White House rolling. "Don't Stop Believin'" will do the trick just fine.

Actor Art Carney, who played legendary sewer worker and sidekick Ed Norton on the landmark TV comedy The Honeymooners and won a Best Actor Oscar for Harry and Tonto, has died at the age of 85. According to a spokesman for a local funeral home, Carney passed away on Sunday at his Connecticut home and was buried in a private ceremony on Tuesday. Carney started his career doing voice-over work on '30s and '40s radio shows like The Land of the Lost and Gangbusters before moving to the television, then a nascent medium, in the early '50s. Carney's fame was launched when he created the iconic role of Ed Norton opposite Jackie Gleason's Ralph Kramden in The Honeymooners, a part for which he won three Emmys. All told, Carney won seven Emmy Awards, most for his work opposite Gleason on The Jackie Gleason Show as well as The Honeymooners. The comedic actor also created the role of Felix Unger onstage in Neil Simon's The Odd Couple and made sporadic appearances in movies, always in supporting roles, through the '60s and '70s. It was his first lead role, as a retired teacher traveling cross country with his orange cat in 1974's Harry and Tonto, that won him an Oscar at the age of 56 and gave his career a second wind. Films such as The Late Show, House Calls and Going in Style followed, along with innumerable roles in TV movies through the early 90s. He is survived by three children, including actors Barbara Carney and Brian Carney. --Prepared by IMDb staff...
