Halloween (1978) More at IMDb Pro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this new feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes .

Sex & Nudity

A girl and a boy are shown kissing passionately on a couch and then run upstairs, where sex is implied. Later, after the boy leaves, we see the girl, now nude, sitting in front of a mirror while brushing her hair (her bare breasts are visible.) We then briefly glimpse her bare right breast as she falls to the ground after being murdered.

A girl and a boy are shown making out on a couch and later in bed nude having sex (we see them thrusting and hear moaning, although a sheet partially obscures what they are doing and most of the scene is shown from behind.) We then see the girl's bare left breast for a few moments as they lie in bed.

A nude girl exposes her bare breasts in front of a man, believing him to be her boyfriend, and they are briefly visible. The girl then gets out of bed to speak on the phone (we see her bare breasts a few brief times and then see them again as she is being strangled by the man.)

A girl finds another girl's nude corpse and her bare left breast is slightly visible, although the scene is very dark and hazy.

Violence & Gore

A girl is stabbed repeatedly with a kitchen knife in various areas (we only see the knife coming up and down and then see her corpse falling to the ground with blood on her chest.)

A man climbs on top of a woman's car and then grabs her by the hair while she is driving, causing the car to swerve off the road. The woman manages to pull away and crawl to the passenger seat, but the man smashes the window behind her with his hand. The woman then jumps out of the car, escaping, and the man steals the car, driving away.

A man's bloody corpse is shown lying on the side of a road.

A man strangles a dog to death (we only see his legs limping and hear whimpering as he dangles in the air.)

A man attacks a girl in a car, attempting to strangle her, and then slits her throat with a kitchen knife.

A man comes out of a closet and throws a boy against a door, the two struggle for a moment, and the man impales the boy through the stomach with a kitchen knife (we only see him raise the knife, then briefly hear a crunch, and see the boy's legs start to limp,) leaving him to dangle there.

A man strangles a girl to death with a telephone cord.

A girl goes into a bedroom and finds another girl's corpse on the bed with a slit throat (some blood is evident.) She then finds a boy's corpse hanging in a doorway (blood is shown on his chest) and a third girl's corpse in a closet. The girl then runs out of the room in hysterics when a man comes behind her and stabs her in the shoulder with a kitchen knife (we later see some blood.) The girl falls over a balcony railing and lands on a staircase. She limps to a kitchen and locks a door behind her, attempting to escape through another door, which has been held shut with a rake. The man breaks through the first door with his hand and comes at the girl, but she smashes the glass pane on the other door with her hand and knocks over the rake (some blood is later shown on her hand.) She runs to another house, throwing a potted plant at a boy's window to get his attention to let her in, and she gets inside safely. The girl then crouches in front of a couch and the man attacks her from behind, attempting to stab her, but misses and hits the couch instead. The girl then stabs the man in the neck with a knitting needle and he falls to the floor, apparently dead (we see some blood on the needle.)

The man revives and chases the girl into a closet, which she locks, and he begins violently breaking down the door. She then uses a coat hanger to stab him in the eye, causing him to drop his knife, which she uses to stab him in the chest. He falls to the ground once again, but soon after revives for a final time, attempting to strangle the girl, but another man enters the room and shoots him six times, causing him to fall over a balcony and land in the yard outside (we then learn that he is still alive and has escaped once again.)

Profanity

Some strong language (e.g. "sh-t," "g-ddamn," "ass-ole") is infrequently used, as well as a few mild profanities and sexual references/innuendo.

A woman is shown smoking a cigarette.

Two girls share a cigarette as they walk home from school.

Two girls smoke a marijuana joint.

A girl and a boy drink beer in a car and are later shown smoking cigarettes while in bed.

Nearly every scene involves a man stalking and killing many of the main characters and they are all extremely frightening and intense, while accompanied by suspenseful and eerie music.
