Genesis won’t turn it on again, staging what was billed as its final concert Saturday night at London’s 02 arena.
Phil Collins, the group’s former drummer, was joined by keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford. Collins, age 71 and increasingly frail with back and hip issues, sat center stage throughout. He was in good humor, though, reportedly quipping at one point that he’ll now need to find a real job after the band’s demise.
Genesis’ “The Last Domino? Tour” came after a 14-year live performance hiatus. It was also postponed during the pandemic. The group’s final tour included concerts in the U.K. last September and in North America last fall, concluding with another 14 concerts in Europe and the U.K.
The trio were joined on the tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who also filled in for his father behind the kit during his recent solo tours.

If Radha Blank can get her game face on breaking out her feature film debut when belonging to the 40-something club, then that late bloomer logic might apply here for Norwegian helmer Kjersti Helen Rasmussen. Working in commercials, writing the feature The Tunnel (2019) and directing short films that would be selected for genre film fests, for her feature debut she bed sheet tied Eili Harboe – the lead from Joachim Trier’s Thelma. In film history, the anthology genre is the most challenging. Episodic films often have several directors and screenwriters which gives them an inconsistent tone and quality. But the genre’s pitfalls haven’t stopped such filmmakers including Akira Kurosawa (“Dreams”), the Coens (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”), Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez (“Sin City”); Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese (“New York Stories”); and Joe Dante, John Landis, George Miller and Steven Spielberg (“Twilight Zone: The Movie”).
Wes Anderson joined them with his latest film “The French Dispatch,” which received a nine-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The comedy brings to life three stories from an American magazine published in a fictional French city and features his stock company of actors including Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson.

New remastered restorations of Val Lewton pictures? We’re there. This terrific double bill gives us two Lewton shockers that are in no way ‘lesser’. The progressive psycho killer picture The Ghost Ship suffered a legal setback and disappeared for almost fifty years; it’s a masterpiece of taste and tone. Bedlam is a costume picture with an ideal role for Boris Karloff, and multiple eerie moments worthy of Edgar Allan Poe. Both movies exhibit interesting storytelling techniques, too. Rko should have promoted Lewton to A pictures, as they did his collaborators Jacques Tourneur, Robert Wise and Mark Robson.

When former “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” writer Elisabeth Kiernan Averick joined the staff of “The Simpsons” a few years ago, she knew eventually she’d be called upon to write a musical episode. That episode is Sunday’s Season 33 premiere, “Star of the Backstage,” in which Marge stages a revival of her high school musical, “Y2K: The Millennium Bug.”
At first, Marge fondly remembers serving as the show’s stage manager back then. But when she decides to embark on a high school reunion of the cast and revive “Y2K,” she soon realizes that those rosy memories didn’t align with reality — that she was treated as a bit of an outcast, both back then and now. That’s when she starts to imagine what it would be like in the spotlight as a star performer. For those fantasy sequences, Kristen Bell provides Marge’s singing voice. In early 2017, Wanda Jackson showed up late to a scheduled writing session in Nashville with Angaleena Presley and Vanessa Olivarez. Jackson, then in her late Seventies, explained to her new co-writers that she’d fallen while getting off the plane from her native Oklahoma City and showed them some of the bruising on her legs and face. Presley showered the rockabilly legend with gratitude for making the trip despite her injuries, when, as Presley recalls, “the most shit-eating grin I’d ever seen billowed across her legendary face.”

Born Michael Cameron Anderson, Anderson East has loved music for as long as he can remember. His love for music officially became a career over a decade ago, and he has been working hard to establish himself in the music industry. Anderson released his first album, Closing Credits for a Fire, under the name Mike Anderson in 2009. His most recent album, Encore, was released in 2018. But while music is most definitely his thing, his relationship is probably what he’s best known for. In 2015, news broke that Anderson and Miranda Lambert were an item. Although the couple has

It doesn’t take long for “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” to both acknowledge and gently reject its roots. Opening on a middle school hockey tryout with all the flashy pomp and circumstances of a primetime NHL game, the new Disney Plus series from Steve Brill, Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith makes it clear that the Ducks of 2021 are nothing like the scrappy underdogs of 1992. Almost 30 years later, the Minnesota youth team has become exactly the kind of hyper-competitive behemoth that it once stood defiantly against. The kids are ruthless, the coach even worse, and the stands are full of parents dreaming of a direct line to fancy colleges. Adding insult to injury, everyone seems to remember the Ducks of old as something of an adorable misstep. “Can you believe they used to quack?” asks one scoffing kid to another, oblivious to the anguished offscreen screams of all the former...

ABC aired “Black Panther” on Sunday to pay tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, and the film delivered a substantial audience for the Disney-owned network.
After three days of delayed viewing, a total of 6.5 million viewers tuned in to see Boseman bring T’Challa to life. That represents the strongest performance for a feature film on broadcast television since the linear debut of “Frozen” back in 2016. In terms of the key 18-49 demographic, the film grew to a 1.5 rating, meaning its finished joint top of the table for the week of Aug. 24 with CBS’s “Big Brother.” According to sources, those “Black Panther” numbers also represent ABC’s best for Sunday nights this summer. In fact, the network hasn’t seen those numbers on a summer Sunday night since June 2018 (excluding sports).
The network’s Chadwick Boseman tribute special grew to 5.2 million viewers in Live+3.

It appears to be Netflix’s world and we are all just living in it. With an all-time record 160 nominations this year, the basic belief that streamers have become a source of comfort and entertainment during the pandemic and the sheer volume of content on Netflix with an astounding 52 different shows landing at least one nomination clearly paid off for the Television Academy membership. It is clear that once voters visited the service they stayed for more. By contrast, runner-up (and perennial leader) HBO managed 107 noms for just 21 different shows garnering at least a single nod.
Volume pays off, and the way the nascent Oscar season seems to be shaping up, that philosophy could well finally also prevail with the Motion Picture Academy as Netflix , at this point, has by far the largest number of potential nominated movies.

In an odd yet welcome turn of events, BBC Two has bought the rights to Harlots, Moira Buffini and Alison Newman’s excellent period drama set in the world of the 18th century London sex trade. But, you ask, didn’t Harlots come out years ago? On ITV? And wasn’t it just cancelled?

Netflix dominated this year’s Critics Choice Real TV Awards, thanks in part to “Cheer” and “Queer Eye,” which led the winners list with two kudos each.

With Encore!, Jason Cohen reunited 12 high school musical casts for one final performance, many years after graduation, facing countless logistical hurdles along the way.
Hosted and executive produced by Kristen Bell, the Disney+ reality series was inspired, in part, by Cohen’s lifelong love of musical theater. “Up until high school, I was in a lot of camp productions. Then, in high school, I wasn’t actually on stage, but I was a musician who played for some performances,” the director and Ep notes. “So, the chance to be able to highlight [the high school musical experience] was appealing.”
Beginning her career in stage productions at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Bell shared Cohen’s love of theater, as well as his sense of the importance it plays in many people’s lives, whether they end up pursuing the craft professionally or not. “She is a musical theater nerd, and she just had...

'We close things out with a look at the 48th production of City Center's famed Encore's, the glorious musical Finian's Rainbow, which starred Kate Baldwin, Cheyenne Jackson, Jim Norton and Terri White. It was directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle. Kate told me,'I get to sing the most beautiful songs. I think Burton Lane was a master of melody.' Cheyenne said he knew the songs but didn't really know the story, 'It's very, very current. I was actually surprised. The main crux of the plot is a bigoted white man in power from the south who is being replaced by an open-minded black man. Hmmm. So, it's very current.''...

“I don’t think any of us can imagine what our lives will really be like (when we’re in high school),” admits Jason Cohen. Reexamining high school dreams is a major component of Cohen’s new show “Encore!” where he serves as creator, executive producer and director. The reality series from Disney+ reunites high school casts as adults so they can stage the musical they performed as teenagers one last time. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Cohen, who also created the series, was excited by “this idea of transformation. We all have the chance to grow through our lives.” How would the participants of “Encore!” transform since their high school days? The results vary widely. The show proves that theater holds a special place in teenagers’ memories, and was a chance for a diverse set of students to gather together. The reunited alumni were part of different friend...

Since nostalgia for any era begins about two decades after the fact, early-2000s look-backs have arrived right on schedule. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl takeover returned us to their end-of-the-century breakouts; Bernie Sanders couldn’t have picked a more circa-2001 rock band for a rally than the Strokes; Jessica Simpson, once a national punchline after her Chicken of the Sea confusion, has a memoir at the top of the New York Times bestseller list; and suddenly everyone is re-examining Mandy Moore’s pre–This Is Us pop career.

Not only are the Legends dealing with a different Encore every episode, but the series also seems to be exploring different film themes, as well.
The Legends traveled back in time to stop a serial killer on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 3 so, of course, the theme was horror. And it was played out just enough to be quite humorous and entertaining without being tacky and cringeworthy.
There were hilarious one-liners, surprising twists, and heartfelt character moments that reminded us why DC's Legends of Tomorrow is one of the best superheroes shows currently on television.
The Encore was the Prom Night Slasher, who everyone believed to be Freddy Meyer, a student at Central City High School.
But there was something off about him when part of the team traveled back to 1989, as he did not seem to be the ruthless killer he was made out to be in...

Check out an exclusive look at Legends of Tomorrow season 5 episode 3, in which the Waverider team gets into an '80s slasher movie vibe.
We'll tell anyone who will listen about how much fun Legends of Tomorrow is. Far more than just a superhero show, and with a tone that is completely unique among its Arrowverse brethren, Legends of Tomorrow uses its time-hopping premise to its advantage, not only leaping into different time periods, but different concepts and tones, too. So when a serial killer escapes from hell and is let loose in 2004, and heads straight for a high school reunion? Well, that sure puts us in the mind of classic slasher movies, doesn't it?
Which brings us to Legends of Tomorrow season 5 episode 3, appropriately titled "Slay Anything" which will go full on with its slasher movie influences on its sleeve.

Gluck is currently in post-production on Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, which Sony will release worldwide on April 3. The first installment, released in 2018, pulled in $351 million globally and was Sony’s highest-grossing film ever in the U.K., excluding the James Bond films.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths indeed proved inevitable (as a certain comic book character might put it) when the Anti-Monitor’s anti-matter wave laid waste to the Arrowverse‘s last Earth standing. And yet just before Earth-One got 86’d, Pariah transported the seven Paragons to a hiding place, the Vanishing Point, where they (hopefully) have been plotting a fix for the universe’s eradication.
But for how long have the Paragons been on their own, when Part 4 arrives (Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW)? And what sort of final showdown can we expect, in the special Legends of Tomorrow episode...

Rites of Spring (2011) Mpi Home Video DVD Available Now
After abducting the daughter of a wealthy socialite, a group of kidnappers seek refuge in an abandoned school in the middle of a wooded nowhere. Little do they know that they’ve chosen the hunting grounds of a ravenous creature that can only be sated by ritualistic sacrifices every spring. Writer/director Padraig Reynolds’ crime thriller/slasher hybrid received mixed reviews during its short festival run, but it’s a solidly crafted piece with some good performances and impressive cinematography by Carl Herse. The one-sheet art is a thing of beauty.
Heaven’s Gate (1981) Criterion Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
