ABC’s drama pilot L.A. Law, a revival of the Steven Bochco legal drama, expands its cast with the addition of John Harlan Kim.
He joins original cast members Blair Underwood and Corbin Bernsen, who are reprising their respective roles as Johnathan Rollins and Arnie Becker. He also joins Toks Olagundoye, Hari Nef and Ian Duff, who will play new characters in the revival.
In the pilot, written by Marc Guggenheim and Ubah Mohamed and to be directed by Anthony Hemingway, the venerable law firm of McKenzie Brackman — now named Becker Rollins — reinvents itself as a litigation firm specializing in only the most high-profile, boundary-pushing and incendiary cases.

The “LA Law” sequel series pilot at ABC has added John Harlan Kim to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
The new iteration of the Emmy-winning series features familiar characters working alongside new ones on the most hot button issues of the day.
Kim joins previously announced returning original series cast members Blair Underwood and Corbin Bernsen. Kim will star as Chad Park, an up-and-coming attorney at the firm described as a “shark-in-training” whose ambition sometimes gets ahead of his ethical standards. Nevertheless, he’s a brilliant attorney who takes on his very first murder trial and must devise an inventive legal strategy when his client drops a bombshell in open court.
Kim has most recently been seen in Fox’s hit drama “9-1-1” in the role of Albert Han and on The CW’s “Nancy Drew” as Agent Park. He previously starred in all four seasons of the TNT series “The Librarians.

In the second head-turning Grammy ineligibility decision to be publicized this week, Bo Burnham’s “Inside (The Songs)” has been nixed as a contender in the comedy album category for the 2022 Grammys.
The album will still be put on the preliminary ballot going out to Recording Academy members, but in the category of best compilation soundtrack for visual media instead of comedy album, Billboard reported Thursday. The album is made up of musical material that appeared in Burnham’s hit Netflix special, “Inside.”
Billboard said that Burnham’s record label, Republic, confirmed the news. The Recording Academy does not make the preliminary ballots that go out to voters public, so controversies over classification usually only become widely known if the artist or label opts to go public with dissatisfaction over the genre they end up in.

Happy Friday, dear readers! One of our annual traditions here at Daily Dead is that, once a year, we take a few weeks to celebrate a notable time period in the horror genre. And since 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of all the great classics that were released during 1981, we thought it only made sense to pay tribute to the films of that year with our Class of 1981 series.
Starting on Monday, August 16th, we will be kicking off our two-week celebration of the killer horror and memorable sci-fi movies that were released throughout 1981. And if you feel like celebrating right alongside us, I’ve gone ahead and put together this handy list of where you can stream an assortment of ‘81 classics on a variety of platforms (both subscription-based and free).
And remember, be sure to check back here every day on Daily Dead for all kinds of 1981-related fun, as...

Tiffany Haddish won Best comedy Album at the Grammys for “Black Mitzvah.” It was her first bidn in the category and her second overall following her Best Spoken Word Album nomination for “The Last Black Unicorn” in 2019. She was the only woman nominated in the comedy race this year, and the Grammys have been shockingly stingy to female comedians, so this win was especially noteworthy. Check out the complete list of Grammy winners here.
In the last 34 years, only one other woman took home Best Comedy Album: Kathy Griffin in 2014 for “Calm Down Gurrl.” Before that only four other women claimed this trophy: Jo Stafford, Elaine May, Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg. This also makes Haddish just the second Black woman to win the award.

The historical shortfall is certainly not for a lack of female comedians in the running.

Mark my words, Bill Burr might be a serious contender for Best Supporting Actor this awards season. Best known as a stand-up comedian, Burr has garnered the best reviews of his acting career to date and is steadily accumulating nominations from critics’ groups for his stand-out performance in “The King of Staten Island,” he has received the best reviews of his acting career to date and is steadily accumulating nominations from critics’ groups.

There’s a moment in the fourth episode of Showtime’s “The Comedy Store” where Neal Brennan is interviewing Jay Leno about what the former “Tonight Show” host thinks about the current use of podcasts as vehicles for stand-up comedians to both hone their craft and build name recognition. And while Leno’s extended “podcasts are masturbation to stand-up’s carnal knowledge” metaphor is a simultaneous eye-roller/groaner, there’s an energy in this interaction missing from almost every other talking head interview in the series — and that’s likely because it’s the only time director Mike Binder is not conducting the interview.
Binder, whose bonafides include writing and directing “The Upside of Anger” and “Reign Over Me,” got his start at The Comedy Store during its heyday in the 1970s, where he became part of owner Mitzi Shore’s inaugural crop of regulars alongside giants of stand-up Robin Williams,...

There are times I wish my failing memory could serve me better, and here’s one example. I have a vague memory of staying up one night – circa 1980, I guess - to catch Roger Moore on one of those late night talk-shows. I was a huge James Bond fan and, as such, always desperate to mine any news, no matter how trivial, on any upcoming oo7 adventure. This was, of course, in the pre-internet era when insider information was relatively scarce outside of a morsel or two shared in fanzine or with a subscription to Variety.. In any event, don’t recall if Moore shared any information that night on the next scheduled Bond opus For Your Eyes Only (1981). I do clearly recall him discussing Andrew V. McLaglen’s ffolkes (better known in the United Kingdom, where the film was originally released,...

Warner Bros.’ “The Little Things,” a crime thriller starring Denzel Washington, has cast actor John Harlan Kim.
John Lee Hancock is writing and directing the film, which also stars Rami Malek and Jared Leto. “The Little Things” follows a burned-out Kern County, Calif. deputy sheriff named Deke (Washington), who teams with Baxter, a crack Lasd detective (Malek), to reel in a wily serial killer. Deke’s nose for the “little things” proves eerily accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules embroils Baxter in a soul-shattering dilemma. Meanwhile, Deke must wrestle with a dark secret from his past.
Kim will portray a rookie cop, while Leto will portray the serial killer on the loose. The film is currently in production.
Kim’s past credits include a starring role in TNT series “The Librarians” as Ezekiel Jones, CW’s “Pandora” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” On the film front, he will...

In his new Netflix comedy special Paper Tiger, Bill Burr has one particular segment that I — as an actor, comic, and person with disability — would like to break down in depth. Let’s begin with his actual routine:
This is how screwed up my country is right now. You know Bryan Cranston, right? That dude did a movie. He played a quadriplegic and people gave him shit, being like, "Why is there an able-bodied person playing a quadriplegic?" It’s like, "It’s because it’s called acting, you dumb fuck." No, Bill Burr cannot talk about whether he’ll appear in the “Breaking Bad” movie or in the upcoming season of “Better Call Saul” (“I’m not allowed to comment on any of that s—“), but the “Paper Tiger” comic is happy to talk all things stand-up comedy — and we were happy to indulge him.
Let’s begin at the end: TheWrap asked Burr about his philosophy on closers or the final joke of a comedian’s set. What came out of that question was a pretty interesting revelation about this latest Netflix special.
“I’ve never really thought about it, but I just know a closer when I hear it coming out of my mouth. I’m like, ‘This is something I can close with,'” Burr said. “I’ll be honest with you: I had a different closer for this hour almost right until the night we taped.
