Truly demented and perverse Swedish exploitation film.
HumanoidOfFlesh12 February 2005
"Breaking Point" is a truly demented porno thriller made by Bo Arne Vibenius of "Thriller:A Cruel Picture" fame.Andreas Bellis plays a rapist murderer who runs amok.He stalks women, follows them home, then rapes and kills them.He also plays with his toy trains and suffers from sexual nightmares. It seems to me that Vibenius has taken obvious pains to create attractive art-house shot compositions, including some amazing dreamlike sequences;an achievement made all the more impressive considering the film's threadbare sets and obvious low budget.Still "Breaking Point" is a grim and bleak film that offers plenty of hard core sex and perversity.Unfortunately the action sequences near the end are poorly staged. However if you are a fan of depraved exploitation cinema give this one a look.7 out of 10.

another gem
trashgang26 August 2009
After Thriller Vibenius made this really hard to find film. Until today it is still unavailable on VHS or DVD. Strange after the success of Thriller. But this is more explicit than Thriller. It's no revenge movie but a movie about a depraved man. He really has a sick mind, I guess...Whenever he see a girl he only wants to make love to them but in satisfaction of his own. So it all is filmed in the explicit way cum included. But still it wasn't categorized as porn. The way he edited the movie and used the score, much delay, reminded of Thriller. But this really is sicker, especially when he goes to a park with a young girl. Guess what's on his mind. As you see on reviews I won't spoil the ending. Try to catch yourself a copy, and be sure it's in English.

Pornographic, but not a Thriller.
dimagic29 July 2007
This is one of those films when you just can't believe what you see on the screen during the movie, when it ends you laugh for some time about how awful that film was and the next day you forget all about it.

This movie is a proof that porno should be on film, not on video. The fact it was shot on film adds so much to the porno scenes, it is actually pleasant to watch.

Bad quality of this C-movie can't hide some deep observations and conclusions of human, both male and female, psyche. The desperation of man in boring modern society, search of forbidden, of pleasures and adrenalin excitement, is a main theme here. But the low quality of the movie is ruining it, there is a lot of potential wasted.

And the movie is definitely not a thriller or a horror. It's a porn with a story, a very vague one.

Worth seeing once. In best case scenario - at some point of your life you will be able to mention the fact you've seen it, people will jealous and you will feel good about yourself.

Swedish grindhouse classic.....
CurtHerzstark18 April 2012
Director Bo Arne Vibenius shot to fame by directing the rape/revenge classic Thriller - en grym film/They Call Her One Eye (1974)and decided to make an even more controversial film.

This dystopian, surreal, nightmarish film about a serial killer/rapist looks like nothing else in Swedish cinema and have few counterparts, even by international standards.

There are some graphic violence but I think the hardcore pornographic scenes in this film that makes it an early precursor to controversial filmmakers like Lars Von Trier, Catherine Breillat etc.

In many ways Vibenius was way ahead of his time by splicing in hardcore porn into his films. Something that is not common, but has been used (mainly within art-house cinema)by several other directors for various reasons.

The story itself reminds me of, say, Maniac (1980), American Psycho (2000), C'est arrivé près de chez vous/Man Bites Dog (1992), Hi, Mom! (1970)etc.

Granted it is not as good as the above mentioned films, mainly because Vibenius doesn't seem to know what kind of story he wants to tell neither does he seem to have real script.

But you get the feeling that film is supposed to have dreamlike, surreal feeling, how much of the film is "real" and how much is just fantasies by the main character?

However, I urge everyone to see this one, and it should be released on DVD, because it is a curious item among Swedish exploitation cinema(or Swedish film history in general)due to it's content and style.

Okay Film
ddhix_200215 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film, somewhat. The story is about a misogynist who goes on a female-hating rampage; with hardcore sex scenes in between. This film is definitely a porno - but with somewhat of a story behind it.

I was irritated at how slow the film moved; it moved way too slow, some focused shots were completely useless & added nothing to the film, and so on. The story could have been great, but it wasn't.

I did like this movie, though. I didn't enjoy it completely, but it was worth watching. It was especially worth watching since copies of this movie are so hard to come by. Other good things about it include the cinematography; which was not great for the entire length of the film, but had moments of good, classic 70s cheesy fast-zooms, follows, etc. I did enjoy the cinematography; for the most part.

The film is in English, which I was completely surprised by; not that it matters, since there is probably 30 actual words spoken in the entire length of the film.

The hardcore pornography was comical at best. Somewhat of a spoiler: The part that I had heard about - the part where the "prostitute" has sex with the gear-shift of his car, is not true. She actually rubs her genitals on the tip of the gearshift; no real "weird sex" type stuff in this film, at all. The sex is not simulated; it is real. This is a real porno, but with a storyline behind it.

If you can get a copy of it, I suggest picking it up. I ordered mine on DVD (it was the company's last one), which came as a burnt DVD that simply said "Breaking Point" on it. After searching enough, I found what could make a DVD cover; so I made a DVD cover, and label from it, that way it could go next to "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" in my collection.

When office clerks go bonkers
Coventry10 August 2009
I was actually one of the rare cult movie fanatics who DIDN'T think "Thriller: A Grim Picture" was a fantastic 70's European exploitation highlight, so I honestly have no idea why I even bothered to track down Bo Arne Vibenius' other and far less notorious film. Oh well, at least "Breaking Point" isn't as pretentious and wannabe controversial as "Thriller" and just openly admits what it really is: a pornographic thriller that doesn't put too much effort into the script and/or building up tension, but does guarantee a whole lot of extended sex footage with ravishing young maidens. The plot, so to speak, revolves on office clerk Bob Bellings who's – surprise surprise – a dangerous and mentally unbalanced pervert rapist/killer after working hours. Whenever Bob isn't in his dungeon playing with his miniature trains or target practicing with his homemade explosive bullets, he stalks young girls or picks up female hitch-hikers. Even though Bob isn't exactly the exemplary archetype of male handsomeness, all the girls willingly strip their clothes off and enthusiastically blow on his trumpet. But all this messing around doesn't give Bob enough satisfaction, so he turns to raping and killing instead. There are a couple of sequences in "Breaking Point" that literally balance on the edge of tastelessness (ejaculating in a cup of coffee) and ethical incorrectness (when Bob spots a VERY young girl) but, all things into perspective, it's honestly just a harmless whack-off flick that isn't going to offend anyone. Heck, the only prudish people who might get offended by this sort of porno-horror aren't likely to know about this film's existence, anyway. I have to admit the end-twist, although very brief and gone in the blink of an eye, is quite perplexing and probably even more shocking than the whole of "Thriller: A Grim Picture".

Better than you'd expect reading these reviews
mkw-522 February 2006
This is not nearly as repulsive film as some reviews would suggest. Actually it is quite interesting, and even funny, sad and beautiful. I think Vibenius has made some deep movies (I'm talking about "Thriller-En grym film" and this). And I'm pretty sure he hasn't got too much understanding, or even very many attempts to understand these films.

Everything is good, both the insides (atmosphere) and the outsides (technicalities) of the film. It's nicely shot, the music is very good, acting is good, people are interesting, overally it has a strong and whole atmosphere. The ideas/script are very good also.

It's funny that in these two movies Vibenius also shows, how differently you can, or COULD, do "hardcore porn": In "Thriller" those scenes were quite dull and ugly, but in here some scenes are nearer to "love making" than regular "porn".

And what comes to the directors "comments" towards psychology: Unfortunately all the "expert statements" that we hear in this movie are direct citations from the leading figures of psychology (in the last century). Vibenius just lets these authorities speak for themselves.

Some scenes are harder to understand than others. And very provocative. Maybe some scenes could have even been left out. I'm mainly talking bout the "candyman" scene, although nothing even happens there. But it's hard to condemn this man (I mean the film's main character), because it's hard to even know are the things shown here reality or just pictures flashing in his bored mind.

The main character seems to have quite a dream conditions in his workplace, it almost makes me jealous... Which brings to my mind: I think the girls in this film are refreshingly normal looking.

I would add to the title of this film ("Pornographic Thriller") one word: PSYCHOLOGICAL Pornographic Thriller. That would describe it quite well. It's a thriller that happens in the mind. However, this is not a film for everybody. At least not for the "faint-hearted". Whoever that may be.

brilliant!
adde_no20 January 2001
Another masterpiece from the alltime favourite director Bo Arne Vibenius! We all know his skills from "Thriller- a cruel picture" and he´s not letting us down with this one either! The film might be about a frustrated (or very liberal, or simply stark raving mad)office clerk, who has sex (or think he has ) with all the women he encounters. He also get to be triggerhappy and wreak havoc a bit, whilst foundling bussoms and playing with his toytrain. The soundtrack is fantastic, and will leave you humming the main theme for weeks(If I´m not mistaken, it´s the main theme from "The third man"...)! Wanna get confused? Pick up a copy and blaze away... It´s Brilliant!!

whose complaining?
christopher-underwood17 August 2006
Described as a 'pornographic thriller' and made the year after the same director's Thriller- A Cruel Picture, this mad concoction makes less sense but is somehow more likable. An odd word to use, I guess, as this includes scenes of rape, murder, necrophilia, the picking up of a young girl, arson and firing atomic bullets! Never did work out what the guns were all about but the director certainly likes them, almost as much as setting things ablaze and hardcore sex, all with a sense of humour. There doesn't seem to be much logic to the tale as the main protagonist moves from rapist to opportunist and then to contemplating paedophilia before loading up his other shooter for the finale. But if the rather erotic scenes and almost surreal touches make up for the odd lapses, whose complaining?

Strange And Surreal Rape-Themed Art-House Sci-Fi Exploit Film...
EVOL66624 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
BREAKING POINT is a different approach to exploitation films than Vibenius' THRILLER: A CRUEL PICTURE. This one is an amalgamation of several different elements to create a moody and bizarre work that is a bit hard to follow in terms of coherent storyline. I think this is done purposely to create a more "artistic" feel for the film - but it's hard to say.

Bob is your typical office-worker-by-day/rapist-killer-by-night who has a real strong pimp-hand. He walks right into bitches houses, says "strip", and they get to suckin' him off straight-away. No foolin' around for this guy. If he doesn't like 'em, he may bash them in the head with a glass ashtray. If he doesn't like his female co-worker, he may give her some coffee that's specially flavored with a bit of man-milk. He sits around his office day-dreaming about f!cking. When he's not whacking-off, he's thinking about whacking-off. He uses a hitch-hiker's puss-juice as cologne. He even has a thing for little girls. Oh - and he has an obsessive fixation with model trains. Yup, Bob's a real whackadoo.

BREAKING POINT is a very odd film. I can't really tell how much of what happens is "real" and what is in Bob's mind. There's a bit of a sci-fi feel to it as well, as there are weird telecasts stating that it's OK to rape as long as you don't murder - and Bob gets a gun with exploding bullets, and a few other weird quirks. BREAKING POINT is going to be of interest to underground exploit fans, as the film is pretty rare, and has pretty much all of the elements that fans of this sort of thing look for - hardcore sex and a ton of nudity, a passable amount of violence, and an overall sleazy vibe. It actually feels a bit like an American-made porno "roughie", but with a bit more storyline. This film isn't also titled PORNOGRAPHIC THRILLER for no reason...8/10

art/ exploitation /sex
dsb-68 December 2006
a bizarre film for sure! I feel the director certainly had artful intentions despite the lurid happenings. whenever we see the protagonist at work he is doing the most boring job imaginable - fold a sheet of paper, stamp it, sign it, move on to the next. in comparison to his work, his extra curricular activities are based around sexual violence and indeed violence in general. perhaps the director was trying to show that people leading boring everyday lives wish they could do something, anything to relieve the tedium, desperate to break the rules of their society just for once... as if to convince themselves that they really do matter and can make a difference.

And I thought I got bored.
ElijahCSkuggs20 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The pornographic story of a man that has reached his "Breaking Point" and is now living out his darkest fantasies.

While watching Breaking Point I thought to myself more than a few times, "I wonder what's making him finally become this type of person." A person who murders, kidnaps and rapes. He seems like a regular single Joe who goes to work, comes home and plays with his trains. Substitute trains for the more modern video games and there you have it, just a regular dude. But when the end does come around, you're hit with a nice disturbing surprise. Breaking Point was a weird flick. It had an abundance of boobs, vaginas, uncircumcised wieners and exploding bullets. The latter which should have been used to a more gory effect, but oh well, at least they were used. Because exploding bullets are awesome. Anyways, the movie moved at a surprisingly fast pace and that for me, is the most important aspect when watching a movie like this. Oh, another selling point is I also heard that this is the movie that inspired Falling Down. ;)

Breaking Point is one of the best story-driven porns I've seen. I was actually curious about why on Earth this dude is doing these things. And like I said before, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the ending. This is definitely a welcome addition to any exploit/porn fans collection. Good stuff.

A great exploit from the maker of "Thriller".
chuck-2191 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Damn. This is a fun time in the most surreal sense. First off, the fantastic "The Third Man"(1949) theme, by Anton Karas, plays throughout the film. He's actually mentioned in the opening credits, but is not listed by the IMDb for some reason. Anyway, the film focuses on a few days in the life of a serial rapist (and what a nutcase of a Jeffrey Jones look alike he is). The films wastes no time in getting things started with a particularly nasty bit of roughieness ending with the victim's skull being bashed in by an ashtray. Nice character intro there. We then follow him around for a few days from work to home while he chooses a new victim every now and again (with one being the most compliant rape victim in the history of cinema). As the film goes on, one starts to feel a bit "Videodromed" since things get more and more outlandish (to the point of wondering if it's in his head). There's even some really good fun involving exploding bullets, submachine guns and a helicopter. The closing line made me laugh harder than anything I've seen in any exploit.

This is hardcore stuff throughout with some very well timed violence thrown in for good measure. There are many laugh out loud scenes including fake newscasts and coffee cups filled with special non dairy creamers. This is Bo Arne Vibenius's followup to "Thriller"(1974) and it's actually better in a great many ways (though I did miss Christina Lindberg). Get it by any means possible.

A rare movie that could be remembered for a long time
heiliandada8 July 2009
I have been looking for this flick for a while. I watched it last week and to be honest with you, this is one of the best "porn" films that had ever made with excellent photography, music and a storyline. This movie was made more than 30 years ago but is still discussed today. The reason is very simple: It can't be made like this in nowadays.

It is not as sick as some reviewers said here. In comparison to some of the porn movies made today, BREAKING POINT is obviously a masterpiece.

Bo Arne Vibenius is clearly a genius in movie making. Here are some other names that he also used: Alex Fridolinski, Stan Kowalski (breaking point) Ron Silberman Jr., Bo A. Vibenius, Boarne Vibenius, Bo Vibenius , Bo Wibenius, etc. I do not know why he is no longer directing movies. It is truly a waste of his gift without continuing his directing career.

I will keep this one in my DVD collecting cabinet, together with Bo Vibenius' another flick: One-Eye Thriller.

Question: my copy runs for ~87 minutes (english with danish subtitle) which is nearly 8 minutes shorter than the 95 minutes as specified here at IMDb. Does anyone know why? Thank you!

It sucks big time
rugbyspelaren-25 June 2002
This movie sucks big time. The story is awful as same as the acting. Its incredibly stupid and totally unrealistic. Not likely that swedish government would send a message to the swedish people which says "Go out and get yourself a gun".

Some hardcore sex and silly violence.Fun to have seen since its very hard to find but I will probably never watch it again.
