Jakey a teddy boy, initially acts tough, Ken all bright eyed, Matthew out of his depth, Bruce angry at his situation. Marsh happy to make their lives hell, tries to break their spirits, they have to find ways to survive the demoralization.
Smith tries to make a bit of extra money from selling lace handkerchiefs, Marsh questions his wife about whether she's been faithful to him, and Richardson frantically searches the camp when his entire kit disappears.
Smith tries to convince the medical officer that he has an ear problem, Marsh informs C Flight that a suicide would see them all sent home, and a clip of ammunition goes missing after Leckie talks of shooting himself.
It's the boys first night out since training started, unfortunately there is only one place to go. Jackey dances out of his pay grade. Marsh gets a snoot full. Leckie is confined to camp and has the best time of anyone.
A soon to be bowler hatted sergeant refuses to put a word in for Marsh, Richardson panics when he's suddenly left in charge of picket detail, and C Flight find themselves faced with an old drunk and an AOC inspection.
First leave, Marsh tries to mess it up. Leckie misses train so can't leave. We met Agnes, Matthew's sister, she gives the others a lift, Ken is enamored. Rival Teddy boys mess with car so they are back late, this give Marsh great joy.
