Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual content.
  • A group of women lie scantily clad on a bed, waiting for Swan. They talk about "doing each other" and referring to their actions as "what turns him on", and two women embrace and kiss slightly out of frame.
  • It is mentioned on multiple occasions that the female auditionees are not given the chance to sing, only to be used sexually. The caress one another (clothed). A woman is lifted off a couch while another is thrown on and a man jumps on her, she screams traumatically.
  • A man references to telling a woman "who to suck", though the last word is interfered by a microphone scratch.
  • A man is seen in the shower; no nudity.
  • A man secretly watches another man and a woman grope, embrace, and kiss through a window pane.
  • Woman are frequently objectified by the "bad guys".

Violence & Gore

  • Most of the violence is played for laughs, however it sometimes gets bloody.
  • A man is seen beaten on the ground with bloody wounds on his face.
  • A man has his face crushed by a record press. He is then seen running out of a building holding his face, the trailer briefly shows his face after being crushed.
  • The same man then has his teeth and "voice" removed (offscreen).
  • A man uses a time bomb to explode a stage prop that possibly kills others around it. We only see the explosion itself.
  • A man is pricked in the finger with a pen and signs a contract in his own blood.
  • During a musical number, a trio of band members dismember fake body parts as a part of their act, and "create" a monster, another singer, who appears on stage with fake, bloody stitch wounds around his limbs.
  • A character is (non graphically) strangled.
  • A man is electrocuted, mostly played for laughs, and lights on fire. However, in the aftermath, it is depressing as we hear this man has died.
  • A man stabs himself, we see bright blood around the wound, and another man pulls out the knife, seemingly resuscitating the man. The wounded man then briefly stabs the other man in the chest (no blood) thought it doesn't seem to harm him.

Profanity

  • A character uses the racial slur "g**k"
  • A man is called a fag, a woman is referred to as a whore.
  • Another woman is referred to as a bitch. One use of bullshit.
  • Though the word is faded out, a man references telling a woman "who to suck".
  • An almost mouthed use of f**k, a woman says "He tried to f--" and doesn't finish the word as she leaves the mansion.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • "Smack" (heroin) is planted on an innocent victim.
  • A character humorously snorts white powder (what is assumed to be cocaine) from a bag.
  • A briefcase full of prescription meds is seen, later pills surround a passed out person.
  • A character talks about "speed" and drugs.
  • Several characters smoke cigarettes or cigars.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film is mostly played for laughs, and is presented in a goofy, operatic, stylized way so the violence and imagery isn't that scary. However, some of the bloody images are startling.
  • The origin of the Phantom, his mistreatment, and the film's ending may upset younger viewers. However, the film itself isn't really intended for them.
