The wrestling set is from the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich.
The "500 pound jerk" of the title does not refer to any character, except perhaps by implication. (Alex Karras was a big man, but by no means weighed anywhere near this amount!) It refers instead, of course, to the "clean and jerk" weightlifting maneuver, whereby a weightlifting competitor will lift a heavy barbell from the floor, first to just over the chest, and then overhead for a few seconds with the elbows locked, before dropping it back to the floor.
