Sex & Nudity

  • The Perks children are seen holding a naked baby in one scene. Mr Perks asks them to put some pants on him because they have company.
  • When Mr Perks and his wife are in bed, he draws a curtain round it and she says 'As it's your birthday' in response to a request, but he is then seen opening a bottle, implying that he wasn't referring to anything sexual.

Violence & Gore

  • Ruth slaps Peter around the face for pulling a prank on her. There is a tussle as the other children try to separate them. Ruth is immediately dismissed for her actions.
  • Jim's broken leg is seen covered in blood.
  • Phyllis cries over the sight of blood as Jim's cast is removed.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Mr Perks is briefly seen swigging what is presumably beer in one scene.
  • Brief mentions of Perks being given a pipe and tobacco as presents. He is never seen smoking it, and this film is set at a time when smoking was part of popular culture and the dangers of it weren't well known or appreciated.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The children being inside a railway tunnel when a train is approaching could be frightening.
  • The children walk on the railway line, which would be very dangerous in real life, especially in the tunnel.

  • The climactic scene in which Father returns and Bobbie runs to him and hugs him is quite emotional.
