The Swedish Prison Service denied access to the famous Långholmen Prison in Stockholm. Instead the closed Örebro prison was used for interiors.
The film is dedicated to the author of "491" Lars Görling (1931-1966). According to Sjöman "Ni ljuger" is considered as a continuation of "491".
A short documentary introduction the reporter Bo Holmström describes the Swedish penalty system. From the beheading of Alfred Anderson 1910 - the last executed death penalty in Sweden - through the 1930 reform effort to the modern health-care forms of open and semi-open prisons, work and home leave.
The story is based on the book "Samarbete över muren" (Collaboration over the wall) published 1967. A collection of notes and correspondence between the prisoner Lars Karlsson and the art teacher Björn Vilson.
