Better Show Than Nielsen Ratings

This show starred Dan Dailey & Julie Sommars as a Governor (father) & a wild teenage daughter (Sommars). Both the principals did well in their roles. Dailey made a very convincing Guv while Julie at still less than 30 was still young enough to pass as a teen age daughter. She could pore on the charm too, which this passion seemed to be gone by the time she did Matlock.

The series was smartly produced by Leonard Stern & Arnie Sultan who also were producing Get Smart. The scripts were funny, and the veteran cast was excellent in support too. For some reason it never got any traction & lasted only 1 season. In a way too bad as there were worse programs around.

I remember the protest theme being touched in 1 episode, when a rock singer had a hit on the radio called "Hang It Mr Govenor!" & the daughter was listening to it. For some reason, this show never got any respect, but it was well done.

Young and whining VS older and cool

Of course if any govenor had a daughter like this he would hide her in a closet. The one thing that I remember from this series is that they were always fighting. She rarely ever saw his side of things. I guess it was uncool to agree with anything an older folk thinks.

Dan Dailey was great as the father/governor BUT Julie Sommars's character, JJ/daughter was irritating. I know it was the script not Ms Sommars fault, but she never was happy with her father unless he gave into her demands. I was a kid when this came out and I couldn't understand her then. She did wear groovy clothes though and was pretty hot looking.

I always liked Dan Dailey. If it were more 50/50 on the show it would have been more enjoyable AND believable. She seemed to get her way on every show. Just because you're young and hip, does not make you right.
