Netflix has released a new trailer for their feature film adaptation of The Archies, adding onto a sort of extended universe. Hopefully this take can fill the Jughead-sized hole Riverdale fans will have once that show concludes this year, although the tone is quite different…
Released during Netflix’s Tudum event, the trailer for The Archies is a nonstop bop, showcasing what looks to be a wealth of wonderfully choreographed dance sequences and hip costumes. As per Netflix: “You’ve seen them in comics, in books, and in Riverdale — but this time around, you’ll see them in India! Set in the 60’s, The Archies builds a world that’s both familiar and new.”
Interestingly, the core cast playing Archie, Betty and Veronica are all offspring of legends of the Indian film industry: Agastya Nanda is the son of Amitabh Bachchan, who very much looks like the Indian version of...

Holy crossover! We've got an extended look at the crazy comic crossover in which Gotham City and Riverdale collide!
Bif! Bang! Zonk!
The past couple of years have seen Archie characters interacting with retro icons like The Monkees and The Ramones, but despite how fantastic these crossovers were, they were just warm-ups for the majesty that is Archie Meets Batman '66. The recent five-issue mini-series -- written by DC stalwart Jeff Parker with Michael Moreci and illustrated by Archie legend Dan Parent (the creator of Kevin Keller), this event was a joyous celebration of both franchises.
Context, as always, is important here. In the late 1960s, both Batman and Archie were experiencing then unparalleled levels of success. The former was the star of his own ABC television series, while Archie and his pals and gals were igniting Saturday mornings with their massively successful The Archie Show cartoon...

A look-back at the previous attempts to bring Archie to TV before they got it right with Riverdale...
When Riverdale premieres on the CW on January 26th, it will mark a milestone for Archie Comics - the first time in the company's 75-year history that its characters will truly shine on television. A mix of gleefully ridiculous kitsch with standout performances and some truly smart writing, the series is poised to be 2017's breakout TV hit.

That said, it took a while for Archie to get to this point. There have been many attempts to bring Archie and his friends to TV before, but these all suffered for either being shoddily animated (the various 1960s cartoons), misguided (1990's Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again), or just plain, um, weird (the X-Files cash-in Archie's Weird Mysteries...

The year now ending marks another 12-month period of losing talents who have given television viewers entertainment or information ... and some of those passings, even more sadly, came as major and untimely shocks. Zap2it remembers:
Paul Walker: The actor best-known for the "Fast & Furious" movies had career roots in such TV shows as "Who's the Boss?" "Highway to Heaven" and "Touched by an Angel."
James Gandolfini: He projected so much older as mobster Tony Soprano, many were surprised to learn the three-time Emmy winner only was in his 30s and 40s when he played the part.
Cory Monteith: As Finn Hudson on "Glee," the Canadian-born performer touched fans of all ages both in life and afterward.
Jean Stapleton: Forever TV's top "dingbat," the "All in the Family" actress earned three Emmys as lovably daffy Edith Bunker.
Jonathan Winters: The improvisation genius who inspired his...

Lou Scheimer, who founded the Filmation animation studio that produced Saturday morning cartoons including Fat Albert and The Archie Show, has died. He was 84. The Pittsburgh native behind the cartoon powerhouse died on Thursday, two days before his 85th birthday, Scheimer's wife Mary Ann said on Sunday. The Los Angeles Times reported that Scheimer's company was the largest animation operation in the country in the early 1980s by number of employees. Scheimer, who graduated with an art degree from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, founded the company in 1962 with a $5,000 loan from his mother-in-law and opened a one-room office in Southern California.

Archie Comic Publications has teamed with Nick Cannon's NCredible Entertainment to develop a non-scripted TV series based on "Josie and the Pussycats".
The show will coincide with a worldwide search for the new 'Josie', 'Melody' and 'Valerie', to be chronicled in a reality competition series.
Archie Comics will launch fresh "Josie" titles to coincide with the project.
"Josie" was created in 1958 by illustrator Dan DeCarlo, basing the character on his wife Josie. DeCarlo sold the property to Archie Comics, developing the charcters into a bi-monthly comic book series.
After being introduced in "Archie's Pals 'n' Gals" #23, the first issue of "She's Josie" appeared February 1963, featuring sweet-natured 'Josie', blonde bombshell 'Melody' and studious 'Pepper'.
In 1968, "The Archie Show" debuted on CBS, produced by Filmation Studios, with the show's song "Sugar, Sugar" hitting the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, September 1969.
Hanna-Barbera Productions contacted Archie Comics to get in on the action,...
