Archstone Entertainment has acquired international rights to multiple pictures produced by the Todd Slater and Brandon Evans-run Convoke Media and Brick Lane Entertainment.
They include “Succubus,” which was written and directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna (“Hard Miles”) and stars Ron Perlman and Rosanna Arquette. The film follows a new father in a failing marriage who joins a dating app and matches with a beautiful but mysterious woman. He is completely entranced by her allure until her powers of seduction and manipulation entangle him in unexpected ways. The cast also includes Brendan Bradley, Rachel Cook, Olivia Applegate, Derek Smith and Emily Kincaid. Producers are Slater, Ari Novak and Anna Elizabeth James.
Shout! Studios has secured all distribution rights in North America to “Succubus,” including theatrical, digital, video-on-demand and home entertainment for cross-platform releases.
Thomas Mignone’s “Queen of Manhattan” is a biographical drama that tells the true life story of adult star Vanessa Del Rio.

Shout Studios acquired North American rights to “The Kill Room,” a thriller starring Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Joe Manganiello.
The distribution and production division of indie Shout Factory has emerged victorious in a bidding war at Cannes Film Festival. Shout Studios plans to release the film in theaters this fall.
“The Kill Room” was directed by Nicol Paone and written by Jonathan Jacobson. The dark comedic-thriller follows an art dealer (Thurman) who teams with a hitman (Manganiello) and his boss (Jackson) for a money laundering scheme. The plan accidentally turns the hired killer into an overnight avant-garde sensation, forcing the dealer to play the art world against the underworld.
“’The Kill Room’ is a sharp, darkly comic evisceration of the art collecting scene, delivered with wily relish by Uma Thurman and director Nicol Paone. We’re confident this will play very well with audiences who like their entertainment both witty and visceral,...

After having the banhammer come down on Succubus: Hellish Orgy VR back in April, developer Madmind has announced that they’re going a different route to get the game to fans. That route involves Gog.com, which will release Hellish Orgy VR on July 20th.
In anticipation of the upcoming release, Madmind has also unveiled a new trailer touting the release date for Succubus: Hellish Orgy VR. The trailer also includes a not-so-subtle dig at Steam and Valve for blocking the game from sale on the platform.
“Game censorship is never met with favourable opinions from players, and as developers, we are often forced to cut or modify entire scenes to meet strict censoring requirements,” stated Madmind Studio in a press release. “That’s why we are especially thrilled that our adult-oriented game has gained the opportunity to premiere on Gog.com.”

Madmind Studio have once again courted the ire of Steam, this time with the VR version of their 2021 title, Succubus. Succubus: Hellish Orgy VR, which had been announced during Madnight 2023, has been banned from the service.
Reported by our friends at RelyOnHorror, Hellish Orgy VR was scheduled to be released Q1 2023 on Steam VR, but has now had its Steam page wiped (though you can still find it on SteamDB). According to Madmind, Hellish Orgy VR was removed from Steam for being “too disturbing.” Valve reportedly had concerns over the titles “drastic content”, though didn’t get into specifics as to what that entailed.
Though honestly, given that the game was described as casting the player as the servant of Queen Vydija (the titular Succubus from the game), and tasked to do everything to satisfy her macabre desires, you can draw your own conclusions.

One of the more amusing promotions in the history of exploitation cinema was for Jess Franco’s sexy-arty 1967 “Necronomicon.” In the U.S., it was released as “Succubus,” but the distributor claimed that title was too shocking for publication, so newspaper ads included a phone number that could be called to hear the lascivious-sounding word (and its definition). That self-imposed hurdle pales next to the one filmmakers have handed themselves with “Porno,” a comedy horror that despite its XXX moniker (and some gore) mostly plays like a retro teen mall-flick fantasy in the spirit of “The Lost Boys” or “Gremlins.”
Keola Racela’s film gets off to an amusingly self-aware start as youthful staff at an early 1990s movie house inadvertently summon up a real succubus hungry for their bodies and souls. Unfortunately, “Porno” gets more uneven as it goes on, with a somewhat slack midsection and a mix of earnestness,...

“the first film rated V for violence”
“Positively the most horrifying film ever made”
“Guaranteed to upset your stomach”
This is how you market a film, folks. All of the above (and more) is found on the poster for Michael Armstrong’s Mark of the Devil (1970), a particularly nasty bit of Witchploitation that surprisingly manages to shine a provocative light on religious hysteria and hypocrisy.
This German production was released in North America by Hallmark Releasing (not the greeting card company, but a film distributor that released another bastion of good tidings, Last House on the Left) in April of ’72, and myriad distributors in various parts of Europe early ’70. Reviews were decidedly mixed, but the box office was huge, especially for a grimy exploitative horror film that happily wallows in its own depravity. I’m inclined to agree with audiences here – while not a lot of fun, Mark of the Devil...

Vampyros Lesbos screens midnights this Friday and Saturday (February 6th and 7th) at The Hi-Pointe Theater (1005 McCausland Ave., St. Louis, Mo 63117)
I can’t believe after all these years I’m finally getting to see a Jess Franco movie on the big screen. This weekend at The Hi-Pointe Theater, Andy at Destroy the Brain is offering up one the late Spanish director’s most noteworthy and beautiful films, Vampyros Lesbos, as part of the Late Night Grindhouse Midnight series.
I first discovered the captivating allure of Jess Franco as a child when his Count Dracula (1970) and Attack Of The Robots (1966) would constantly air on the creature feature syndicate. Even as a kid, I was captivated by Franco’s hypnotic, dreamy style and I can remember being puzzled by a narcotic quality I wasn’t used to. It was when VHS tapes were introduced in the early ‘80s that I really sought out his work.

Prolific Spanish film-maker who specialised in psychedelic gothic horror – often laced with sex and violence
According to the Internet Movie Database, the Spanish film-maker Jesús Franco, who has died aged 82, directed 199 films, from El árbol de España in 1957 to Al Pereira vs the Alligator Ladies in 2012, a record few can match in the era of talking pictures. Given that many Franco films exist in three or four variant versions, sometimes so radically different that alternative cuts qualify as separate movies, his overall tally might be considerably higher.
Born Jesús Franco Manera, he was most often credited – at least on international release prints – as Jess Frank or Jess Franco, though he used a host of pseudonyms, writing scripts as David Khune, composing music as Pablo Villa and co-directing pornographic films (with his long-term muse Lina Romay) as Rosa Almirall. Director Jess Franco was on-hand at Fantastic Fest during a screening of his 1969 film Venus in Furs, and he was surprised by the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Sword. Lars Nilsen, film guru extraordinaire of the Drafthouse presented the award as part of the celebration of Franco's films going on during Fantastic Fest. The festival officially opened last Wednesday with a midnight screening of Franco's Eugenie: The Story of Her Journey into Perversion (1980), and since then they've shown Succubus (1968), and The Bare Breasted Countess (1973).
Franco has directed nearly 200 films since 1957, up to and including A Bad Day At The Cemetery from 2008. He's worked tirelessly in Spanish cinema as everything from composer, writer, cinematographer, and editor for years, and his films are truly different. To dismiss them as arthouse schlock is a crime, and if you have a chance you should seek out one of the three films featured on...

Spanish director, scriptwriter, producer, actor, editor, cinematographer, composer and genre specialist Jesus (a.k.a. Jess) Franco (pictured) is to be the recipient of an Honorary Award at the 23rd annual Goya Awards, the country’s equivalent of the Oscars.
