Stella Baker (Tell Me Your Secrets) is set as the titular lead in the CW drama pilot The Republic of Sarah, from writer-producer Jeffrey Paul King, Marc Webb, CBS TV Studios and studio-based Fulwell 73.
Baker landed her first starring role after testing for the part alongside several other young actresses. The project was redeveloped by the CW this season after going to pilot at CBS last season with Sarah Drew as the title character.
Almost immediately following her 2018 graduation from the Yale School of Drama, Baker was cast as a series regular on TNT’s drama Tell Me Your Secrets, fka Deadlier Than the Male. That series is yet to air on TNT — or HBO Max — and its future is unclear. The cast of the project, which was picked up to series two years ago, has been released, and The Republic of Sarah has Baker in first position.

In a case of whiplash worthy of a speeding train, the “Snowpiercer” series is now moving back to TNT, the cabler announced Wednesday.
It was announced earlier this year that the show was moving to TBS after it had been in development at TNT for years. The show will now debut on TNT in spring 2020. At the time of the TBS move, it was also announced that the show had been given a Season 2 renewal.
“We’ve had the unique opportunity to more thoroughly test and explore where this show will best perform,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer of HBO Max and president of TNT, TBS, and truTV. “While we are still adding dramas to TBS (such as ‘Obliterated’), after further research and consideration we’ve decided to keep ‘Snowpiercer’ on TNT. Now that we’ve seen this incredible post-apocalyptic sci-fi series in its entirety, and better understand the...

Given its name, it should come as no surprise to learn that Deadlier Than the Male is an upcoming mystery drama that will be broadcast on TNT, which is interested in securing a piece of the profits from that particular market for itself. However, it is interesting to note that TNT understands the importance of differentiating its offerings from those of its competitors, which should make it that much easier for its mystery drama to stand out instead of blurring together into a seamless mass with all of the other mystery dramas out there. As a result, people with a

Last Week’S Review: “The Lying Detective’ Gives Us Sherlock’s Most Terrifying Villain Yet
[Spoilers follow for Season 4, Episode 3, “The Final Problem.”]
Season 4 of Sherlock has galloped by — which is easy enough, when the seasons are only three episodes long — but it ends on an oddly final note. Although cast and crew insist that this isn’t necessarily the end, Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss wrap up their 13th episode on an elegiac note, musing on the legend that is Sherlock and Watson.
It’s just a shame the rest of the episode was such a mess, really.
Don’t Look Now, Mycroft
The opening of the episode is pure Gatiss — in what seems like it must be a dream sequence but isn’t, Mycroft is haunted by the voice of his sister (represented by what we assume is a little girl but is actually a small man in a wig), a clown, and portraits that weep blood.

The already-incredible line-up for the 2016 New York Film Festival just got even more promising. Ang Lee‘s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk will hold its world premiere at the festival on October 14th, the NY Times confirmed today. The adaptation of Ben Fountain‘s Iraq War novel, with a script by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), follows a teenage soldier who survives a battle in Iraq and then is brought home for a victory lap before returning.
Lee has shot the film at 120 frames per second in 4K and native 3D, giving it unprecedented clarity for a feature film, which also means the screening will be held in a relatively small 300-seat theater at AMC Lincoln Square, one of the few with the technology to present it that way. While it’s expected that this Lincoln Square theater will play the film when it arrives in theaters, it may be...

R.I.P Dr. Markway. I recently watched British actor Richard Johnson as Bulldog Drummond in Deadlier Than The Male, a tough and stylish Bond pastiche from 1967 with an odd Avengers twist. His Drummond was suave and sophisticated and I wasn’t surprised to read that Johnson was (one of many to be) considered for 007. And I was thinking just last night when I was watching Insidious 3 that I wished I was instead watching a better-crafted, genuinely creepy horror story like The Haunting (1963), which starred also Johnson. The actor had a varied career, starring in diverse roles ranging from Caius Cassius opposite Charlton Heston in Julius Caesar (1970) to Dr. Menard in Lucio Fulci’s unforgettable Zombie in 1979. Richard Johnson died in London yesterday at age 87.

The unstoppable philistine known as Death claims another Trailers From Hell patron saint.
Horror legend Jimmy Sangster has died, which should — in your exploration of genre classics (or just watching through the numerous trailers for films that feature his name) — mean something to you. If it doesn’t, Tim Lucas has an all-encompassing reminder of why it should:
After his first screenwriting credit (Joseph Losey’s A Man On The Beach, 1955), Sangster’s list of screenplay credentials form an impressive overview of Britain’s contribution to fantastic cinema over four decades:
X – The Unknown (1956), Blood Of The Vampire (1958), The Mummy (1959), The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959), The Hellfire Club (1959), Jack The Ripper (1960), The Terror Of The Tongs (1960), Taste Of Fear (aka Scream Of Fear, 1961), The Pirates Of Blood River (1961), Maniac (1963), Paranoiac (1963), Hysteria (1964), The Devil-ship Pirates (1964), The Nanny (1965, his personal favorite), the Bulldog Drummond adventure Deadlier Than The Male (1967), The Anniversary...

In 1970, the Vietnam War had already dragged on for nearly a decade. Filmmakers, like society in general, were making their opinions about the war known. The great anti-war films M*A*S*H and Catch 22 were released that year and, though not set in Vietnam, made bold satirical use of past wars to make their points. However, that same year brought us another anti-war film somewhat overshadowed by those two classics, Hornet’S Nest, starring none other than Rock Hudson. Like some surrealistic cross between John Wayne’s The Cowboys and the original Inglorious Bastards (both of which it predated), Hornet’S Nest is notable for several reasons: it was the final Hollywood film of European screen star Sylva Koscina, it was one of director Phil Karlson’s last movies, and it was the film debut of Hudson’s trademark mustache! However, it is Not notable for being on DVD.
