The starry background in many shots shows twinkling stars. Twinkling is caused by turbulence in the air when a star is viewed from Earth. From space, the stars would show a constant brightness.
Some of the exterior shots of the space station has the name of the station written backwards.
In one scene, a rocket is shown accelerating as it approaches the space station. Since it is already in deep space and therefore not in a gravitational field, it does not need to accelerate.
About 15 minutes in, the rocket ship prepares to turn directions in space. As they prepare, the astronauts are shown tensing up and quivering in their seats as if they were blasting off from earth. There is no gravity in space and thus there would be no G-force upon them.
The script explains that the fungus can be killed by exposing it to cold, but when its tendrils surround the space station it is able to survive and grow in the cold of deep space. The space station is not in deep space but in the earth's solar system; it is explained in the movie that the fungus grows on the exterior of the station because of the intense heat of the sun.
The reason for the design of a wheel type space station is to generate gravity as seen in the movie 2001 in that the crew lives and works on what would be the inside of the outer wall of the station. In this movie it appears that the crew is not on the outer walls because the interior shots show curved walls and flat floors.
The foreign newspapers carrying news of the space station disaster all have English headlines.
The photograph of the Moon on the wall in the office is printed backwards (and tilted).
The fungus is supposedly susceptible to cold yet was found in 'ice caves' on the Moon.
As the space station is in the vacuum of outer space, heat would be lost solely through radiation (not conduction/convection) so the cooling effect of shutting down the reactors would be a very slow process. Also, it is established that the sun is heating the surface of the station, which would also slow any cooling effect.
The doctor thinks it will fix his fungus infestation if he is frozen - on the peculiar logic that the fungus was found in ice caves and flourished when it was taken somewhere warmer. Which means that he will be fine as long as he spends the rest of his days deep frozen.
