The producers and the effective director ( Paolo Heusch ) are the same of Il comandante (1963). However, probably due to the poor success of the previous movie, as director was officially listed co-screenwriter Ottavio Alessi. Alessi then only directed another movie, Top Sensation (1969).
Russian-American actor Mischa Auer (Count Mischa) at time of filming was known in Italy mainly for roles in horror movies.
Totò's role in this movie is widely considered as his most evil role ever. It's the second one among his movies in which appear references to drugs and homosexuality after Totò, Peppino e... la dolce vita (1961).
Actor Pietro De Vico stated in an interview that Totò was unhappy with the script of some scenes and that he once told him to follow him while ad-libbing.
