Originally shot as the pilot for the TV series Temple Houston (1963), but released theatrically instead, with the main character's name changed, after changes in cast and characters made it unusable for the series.
Director William Conrad would make Brainstorm starring Jeffrey Hunter, and would produce Countdown featuring Joanna Moore.
There are a few Star Trek connections: Jeffrey Hunter would star in the failed pilot, The Cage; Grace Lee Whitney would play Yeoman Rand on the show's first season; and James Coburn was one of the top names to replace Jeffrey Hunter for the command of the series after Hunter left and before William Shatner was famously hired.
Edward Andrews also played an inept prosecuting attorney in the James Cagney drama, These Wilder Years: both movies are on Warner Archives DVD.
