While he made the movie director Paul Verhoeven was denied access to the student society even though he made the film on behalf of the student association. The reason was he did not wear a tie.
The premiere was on 15 June 1960 at the Luxor Theater in Leiden. Crown princess Beatris, who was studying in Leiden at the time, attended. Paul Verhoeven said the princess noticed the change of person immediately: "That's another girl!" she exclaimed spontaneously. It took a while before the rest of the rest of the audience understood."
Debut film by Paul Verhoeven.
Made as a lustrum film commissioned by the Leiden student association Minerva.
Won first prize at the student film festival Cinestud 1960. The win was a controversial one: the decision was not unanimous but by majority of votes, and many critics were dismayed that Paul Verhoeven's film had been accepted in the first place, since he technically wasn't a film student: he once attended film school but had dropped out after a year.
