Clark Gable, Loretta Young, The Call of the Wild Judy Lewis, out-of-wedlock daughter of Loretta Young and Clark Gable, died of cancer on Friday, Nov. 25, at a retirement home in the Philadelphia suburb of Gladwyne. She was 76. Young, who was an ardent Catholic, and Gable, then married to Maria Franklin Langham (17 years his senior) had an affair while starring in William A. Wellman's 1935 adventure drama The Call of the Wild. Young had just turned 22, Gable was 34. In a manner similar to the absurd stories of so many Hollywood melodramas of the period, after learning of her pregnancy Young took off for Europe. Upon her return months later, she was reported ill and convalescing at a hospital in the Los Angeles suburb of Venice, where Judy was born Nov. 6, 1935. When the girl was almost two, Young officially adopted her (and a boy, later returned) from an orphanage in San Francisco.

When Gene Roddenberry tried to explain to NBC execs that his new show Star Trek would be “Wagon Train to the stars,” he had some evidence to back himself up: This never before released two-disc set showcases the stars' appearances on classic (and some completely forgotten) western programs from the 50s and 60s. Disc 1 includes: Tate (1960): Episode Comanche Scalps starring Leonard Nimoy and co-starring a young Robert Redford in the critically-acclaimed but obscure series Bonanza (1960): Episode The Ape co-starring Leonard Nimoy and Dan Blocker Outlaws (1960): Episode Starfall Parts 1 & 2: Starring William Shatner, Cloris Leachman and more in a feature-length adventure. Disc 2 includes: The Lone Ranger (1949): Episode Legion of Old-Timers featuring Deforest Kelley, Clayton Moore & Jay Silverheels Last of the Mohicans (1957): Epiode The Scapegoat starring Lon Chaney Jr. and James Doohan Outlaws(1960): EpisodeShorty featuring Edward Binns, Alfred Ryder and Leonard Nemoy White Comanche (1968): The...

It kinda happened a bit more quietly this year than in some other years, but lo and behold, the new fall season of television is upon us. Last week, the CW premiered "Nikita" (which Dustin rightly concludes is a low-rent piece of popcorn TV), and tonight sees the premiere of "Outlaws" (and the return of the now-on-Wednesday-nights "Survivor," which has folks wet with anticipation as to what Jimmy Johnson will do when his perfectly sculpted helmet hair loses its sculpt - I predict his rage will lead to the uncontrollable murder of Probst, like Homer killing the Hamburgler).
What are the mostly hotly anticipated new fall shows? I don't have the foggiest of an idea because I've been so god damn busy at my god damn stupid real life god damn job that I'm entirely disconnected from things. But in a little bit, I'll give you the list of my most anticipated shows.
