Adolph Green, who with writing partner Betty Comden produced the screenplays and/or the lyrics of some of Hollywood's most memorable musicals, including what is regarded by many as the greatest of all -- 1952's Singin' in the Rain, died in New York on Wednesday at the age of 87. His other films included On the town, Good News, The Barkleys of Broadway, The Band Wagon, Auntie Mame, and Bells Are Ringing. He also wrote or co-wrote the lyrics for such songs as "New York, New York," "The Party's Over," "Just in Time," and "Make Someone Happy." Active to the end, he had been promoting the 50th anniversary DVD edition of Singin' in the Rain only last week and reminisced about the making of the movie on the disk itself.
