The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Much of the film is actually surprisingly bloodless. However, the scenes that are violent are very violent. Among these are the scenes of the murder of the lord -- the actual killing is not depicted, but there is a large amount of blood on the knife, and the chamber of the murdered man is from that point in the film on irrevocably stained in blood. At the very end of the film, the protagonist is finally killed in a hail of arrows, with numerous shots sticking in him. At the end, an arrow pierces straight through his neck, killing him.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are a few scenes depicting drinking of saké, one of which has the suggestion of someone being drunk, and another wherein people unknowingly drink drugged liquor.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The final scene, which shows Toshiro Mifune running panicked on a parapet while arrows are being shot at him, is fairly intense.
