The movie is loosely based on a homonymous play by Augusto Novelli.
Aristide Paoloni (Gino Cervi) states at the beginning of the movie that his home address is Via Marcello Marchesi. Marcello Marchesi is one of the screenwriters of the movie. Real filming location is Via Giovanni Randaccio 4, Livorno.
Actor Leopoldo Trieste (Rialti) was casted personally by Totò.
First movie produced entirely by DDL, a production company founded by Totò, Dino De Laurentiis and Renato Libassi (the name stands indeed for De Curtis, De Laurentiis and Libassi). The movie was unsuccesful, therefore Totò decided to leave the company.
The factory of Aristide Paoloni (Gino Cervi) is actually the film studio Pisorno in Tirrenia, near Pisa. The studios were founded during Fascism and acquired in 1961 by the production company Cosmopolitan Film of Carlo Ponti. In 2011 they were transformed into residential buildings with the name Cosmopolitan Village, in honour of Ponti's production company.
