While us horror lovers revelled in the ripped bodices and cobwebbed corridors of another vampire plagued castle, Hammer was busy trying to clear the halls and make their way into the modern world. Take Nightmare (1964), an effective black and white thriller that shows you don’t need fangs to be fearsome.
Released in its native U.K. in April and stateside in June, Nightmare (Aka the amazing Here’s the Knife, Dear: Now Use It) still has a lot of wandering down darkened hallways, but instead of coming up against the undead, our heroine has to do battle with her own brittle mind. Or has the dead come back for her?
Pity poor Janet (Jennie Linden – Old Dracula). Our film opens with her hearing a distant voice calling her name. She leaves the comfort of her bed and follows the whispered voice which leads her to a shadowed room where...

Though three decades have passed, fans still remember the famous lift and Swayze’s character insisting that “nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
The young lovers meet at Kellerman’s, an upscale summer resort where Johnny Castle (Swayze) works as a dance instructor and Baby Houseman (Grey) is visiting with her family. Baby ends up at a party for the staff and Johnny catches her eye. As she swoons over him during the hot summer days, he...

“Ugetsu”
“Having refined his craft in the silent era, Kenji Mizoguchi was an elder statesman of Japanese cinema-fiercely revered by Akira Kurosawa and other younger directors-by the time he made ‘Ugetsu.’ And with this exquisite ghost story, a fatalistic wartime tragedy derived from stories by Akinari Ueda and Guy de Maupassant, he created a touchstone of his art, his long takes and sweeping camera guiding the viewer through a delirious narrative about two villagers whose pursuit of fame and...

We present our interviews from the red carpet of the UK Premiere of Viceroy’s House, held yesterday evening at the at Curzon Mayfair in London.
The film stars Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson, Lily Travers, Manish Dayal and Huma Qureshi, and is directed by Gurinder Chadha. It tells the story of the final Viceroy in India before its independence. Chadha’s take on the division of the Indian Empire is told through the relationship between the titular Viceroy and his wife, and the emergent love between one of their servants and his bride.
The film has a fine cast and looks, from the trailers, to be a visually sumptuous enterprise. Scott Davis and Colin Hart were on the red carpet this evening.
Director Gurinder Chadha spoke eloquently on the timing of the film, and the importance of learning from history.

The film tells the true story of the final months of British rule in India and its release will coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Independence of India and the founding of Pakistan.
The film is accompanied by a beautiful and moving score, composed by Oscar and Grammy winning maestro A.R. Rahman. Speaking in a recent interview, Rahman references Viceroy’s House:

Two new character posters have arrived for British drama, Viceroy’s House and we can’t help thinking they have a link to Valentine’s Day. With Gillian Anderson gazing lovingly at her Husband, Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) on one side and the young lover’s, Jeet and Aalia cosying up to each other.
Related: Viceroy’s House Trailer and Poster
Viceroy’s House is set in a time where men were seen to rule their women and these posters depict this in a blatant manner with both Lord Mountbatten and Jeet in regal, honourable stances ever so slightly in front of the ladies. Even though fitting for the time, to portray this on promotional posters in the 21st century makes them feel dated. Oh and while we are here does anyone else, after watching our previous trailer post for Viceroy’s House, think Gillian Anderson has...

Iggy Azalea and Nick Young made their red carpet debut as a couple on Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards.
Azalea, whose debut album The New Classic was an instant hit, presented at the awards show and also performed her smash single “Fancy” and her new song with Ariana Grande, “Problem.”
Iggy Azalea And Nick Young Walk Red Carpet
Walking the red carpet with clean, minimal make-up in a long burgundy gown by Zuhair Murad, Azalea posted for photos alongside her Los Angeles Lakers boyfriend, Young. Though the couple began dating in November of 2013, they had not attended any red carpet events together until Sunday.
Their first red carpet wasn’t without its awkward moments. After fans pointed out to Azalea a moment on the red carpet when Young bent down to kiss her and Azalea failed to notice, Azalea tweeted a joke about the incident.

Michael C here to make sure memory one of 2012's masterpieces isn't washed away in a flood of Oscar bait.
The more I think about the final moments of Moonrise Kingdom the more it feels like the saddest thing I’ve seen at the movies all year.
At first glance it feels like the ending couldn’t be much happier. The young lovers are reunited, the storm has passed, and even if things aren’t perfect life is left in greater balance than when the story began. Yet on repeat viewings a nagging feeling of loss rises to the surface. Sam and Suzy are together but it’s not accidental that the last thing we see them do is say goodbye to each other. Man on a Ledge
Directed by: Asger Leth
Cast: Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris, Anthony Mackie
Running Time: 1 hr 42 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: January 27, 2012
Plot: An ex-cop (Worthington) threatens to jump from a Manhattan hotel, while trying to get revenge on the man who sent him to prison.
Who’S It For? Does the slightest fear of heights make you giggle with nervous excitement? If not, you’re looking at an average thriller with a good gimmick.
Expectations: I knew very little about this flick. Like the title said, I figured there would be a man … and he would be on a ledge. It was an early screening and the first 2012 film I saw.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Sam Worthington as Nick Cassidy: My favorite Worthington performance is as David in The Debt. Let me clarify that a little, it’s really the only one I have appreciated.

Adaptations of plays by William Shakespeare have regularly made a showing at the Academy Awards over the decades. This year, Ralph Fiennes throws his hat into the ring with a modern interpretation of "Coriolanus," which he stars in and directs. Must be that time of the month for another “based on actual events” horror, this time in the form of Aussie writer/director Bill Bennett’s latest work Uninhabited an Australian scare flick about a loving young couples holiday paradise, that turns into a nightmare struggle for survival - Think we’ve all been on one of those kind of trips. Uninhabited goes on sale in UK August 15. Synopsis: Harry and Beth want a different kind of holiday. So they charter a boat to drop them off on a remote coral island on the Great Barrier Reef. The island is idyllic – surrounded by a wide reef, covered in palms and full of birds and other wildlife, small and totally deserted. Or is it? The young lovers soon come to believe there is someone else on the island. Things go missing from their camp – and then they discover someone else’s footprints in the sand.

It’s like a PG-13 of Green Eggs & Ham: Will he kiss her on a boat? Will he kiss her on a goat? Will he kiss her in the sky? Will he kiss her on the eye? The answer for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez is clearly yes…assuming they can find a goat to ride on during their romantic vacation in Hawaii. The young lovers have been piling on the PDAs, smooching on every mode of transport possible. Guess nobody’s worried about death threats from jealous Bielebers anymore!
Check out the gallery for more of Selena’s bikini body—we know you’re not impressed by Bieber’s muscles—and their puppy love (related bit of trivia: the age of consent in Hawaii is 16).

After an encounter in a coffee shop where Powie was working and a fateful meeting in the heart of Manila that led to a lunch of cheap soft-boiled eggs covered in orange batter in the middle of a busy street, the two become inseparable. Success is everything in Hollywood, but for some of the most powerful and accomplished women, it is also what ultimately tears apart their personal lives!
