- Olga: I don't agree with murder but when it comes to a showdown, my sympathies are always with the bloke in the dock. I suppose it's because I've been inside myself.
- Mrs. Helen 'Nelly' Allistair: It'll all be thrashed out open court. And then everything you've done, everything you've been, will all be dragged before the public eye again.
- Vivianne: That might have mattered once, but not any more. You've destroyed any pride or self-respect I might once have hung on to.
- Mrs. Helen 'Nelly' Allistair: What about your child? What's it going to do to him? Be sensible now. The public isn't interested in the sort of girls I take in. They don't want to know.
- Vivianne: A lot of things go on that the public don't want to know so they look the other way. I've seen so much dirt that I'm just not squeamish any more.
- Christine: It's rather different from what I expected.
- Lilli: Ach. One gets used to almost anything. I've even got used to England.
- Christine: Really?
- Lilli: The climate is bad, the food is terrible. Nobody has money. My one idea is to get away from it. Back home where we have everything.
- Christine: Where's that? Switzerland?
- Lilli: Oh no. Germany!
