The final credit of the opening titles reads written, produced and directed by Emeric Pressburger. It's the only time he was credited solo for all three jobs and after its initial release the film seems to have been unseen for 80 years. It is based on a story by Erich Kastner which has been filmed before and would be again as the rather more famous film 'The Parent Trap'. It opens with Doctor Matthews (Jack Hawkins) at the ballet. He is not enjoying it and narrates for us a story of twin sisters who are separated at birth, meet by chance aged 12 and decide to swap places. The cast are all very good and the script is an amusing one. It's not Pressburger's best work but it didn't deserve to remain obscure for so long.
