Screw stealing bases! Pitch is here to steal our hearts!
With the trailblazing appeal of movies like 42 and A League of Their Own and the charm of the late, great Friday Night Lights, Pitch is the perfect blend of family drama, sports action, girl power, and wit. It's balanced enough to appeal to various demographics and well written enough to avoid being typecast.
If the quality of Pitch Season 1 Episode 1 is any indicator of what the rest of the season has in store for us then Fox may have itself a new hit!
Ginny Baker can officially join the rank of fascinating, complex, multi-layered primetime female protagonists.
She's talented, confident, driven, and witty. On the surface she appears as if she has it completely together. She damn near eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball, and has since the first time she picked one up and hurled it at her father.

Let's try to cover everything we haven't mentioned lately (whew). The biggest and most obvious is that Sofia Coppola, whose plans to follow up Bling Ring with a live action Little Mermaid are no more, is now supposedly working on a remake of the Clint Eastwood romantic drama The Beguiled (1971). The film will star two darlings of Tfe Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst. Plus Elle Fanning so Coppola already sold all the tickets to our crowd. The Clint role is as yet uncast. They're said to be looking for a 'Chris Pratt' type but what this surely calls for is a watch of the original film to familiarize ourselves.
Let's do it together shall we? It's available on Amazon and iTunes so let's all watch it by April 8th or so and we'll discuss. Deal?

Yeesh, there are more lousy horror movies about vampires than there are skin flicks on Cinemax.
But, luckily, vampire movies are as enduring as the legend of Dracula himself: Just when you think the genre is played out, great filmmakers manage to pump fresh blood back into the myth.
Just for you, we've chosen some of the best vampire films -- from classic screen Counts to '80s Goth chic and bloody '90s action -- with nary a sparkling vamp in sight.

An Indian adaption of the hugely popular hit, Warrior with Tom Hardy, Brothers is the hard-hitting action-drama surrounding a broken family forced to face up to one another mentally and physically, all within the world of mixed martial arts and underground street fighting.

We've got magic to do... Just for you
It seems we have another big screen Broadway adaptation coming our way courtesy of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, a pair of producers who have almost single-handedly kept the screen musical alive. NBC’s Sound of Music Live? Zadan & Meron! Oscar-winning Chicago, SAG-nominated Hairspray and Emmy-nominee Smash? Yep, you guessed it: Zadan & Meron! They are even responsible for some of the less celebrated attempts at live action adaptations of Broadway musicals, from the swiftly forgotten 2003 adaptation of The Music Man featuring Matthew Broderick and the Kathy Bates-led 1999 Annie to the Bette Midler TV adaptation of Gypsy back in 1993.
Needless to say, they’re invested in this genre in ways not many other producers are. We can argue about their batting average. For every attempt at ‘modernizing’ a piece to its very detriment -- see 2011’s Footloose,...

Remember the #BangBangDare article we brought to you a few days ago? Well, Hrithik challenged Ranveer with a very specific dare, and it takes guts for a Bollywood actor such as Ranveer to complete quite an unusual challenge, even though it’s something which happens a lot in movies.
Hrithik Roshan dared Ranveer to get out of his car and pose in the middle of any main street of Mumbai for his fans. But Ranveer, known for his spontaneity and high spirit, came up with a crazier idea to make this #BangBangDare unique!
The actor, who will be seen in Yrf’s Kill Dil in November, decided to dance in the middle of a very busy street and in front of a quickly growing crowd to pay tribute to Hrithik Roshan, who he is very fond of.

Kevin McCallister is all grown up now. Macaulay Culkin celebrates his 34th birthday today (August 26), so what better time to take a trip down memory lane to find out what happened to the cast of Culkin's greatest work: Home Alone.

Macaulay Culkin
The biggest child star of the '90s, Culkin spent almost a decade away from screen acting following 1994's Ri¢hie Ri¢h. After a stint on London's West End in Madame Melville, he returned to TV and film in 2003 with roles in Will & Grace and Party Monster. His acting parts since have been sparse - a 2010 Robot Chicken Christmas special is his last (voice only) credit - but Culkin seems to have found his calling as the frontman of a Velvet Underground pizza-themed cover band.

It's nearly Halloween and that means it's time to figure out a costume. If you're a Whovian, you might be looking to express your "Doctor Who" love. Just for you, Zap2it is here to guide you on that path.
Of the characters on the show you could be, the Doctor automatically comes to mind. There have been 11 different versions of your favorite Time Lord and each of them has their own unique look. Of course, there's also some of the Doctor's foes, like Daleks and Weeping Angels. Finally, what's "Doctor Who" without a Tardis?
The Doctor: First you have to decide which Doctor you want to be. For simplicity's sake, this guide is going to focus on Nine (Christopher Eccleston), Ten (David Tennant) and Eleven (Matt Smith). Nine's costume is easiest. You just need a leather jacket and a black shirt, really. If you're getting technical, Nine wore a black U-boat jacket.

The new CW drama series Cult takes viewers into an unusual world of two different realities – one fictional and one real in the same show. So Cult offers a peek behind the curtain as it features a mystery story surrounding a fictional TV show that seems to bleed-over into the real world. Playing two characters in one show, star Robert Knepper portrays the actor Roger Reeves, who plays the fictional Billy Grimm a cult-leader in the popular TV show “Cult.” But the fans of Roger Reeve’s show have taken the fictional world a bit too seriously, and when a string of murders is revealed, no one quite knows what to think about the actors who portray members of the TV cult. At the WB Mondo International Press Tour, Robert Knepper shared a bit of insight on what it is like to have played a variety of television characters, who...

If you don't know who Nat Wolff is, a) you might be living under a rock, and b) you will soon. The high school senior just wrapped work on the much buzzed about indie flick "Palo Alto," in which he portrays a character from the twisted imagination of James Franco. There are also pictures of him making out with Selena Gomez all over the internet right now -- granted, he was shooting a scene for his role in "Behaving Badly," but don't think it hasn't gotten tongues wagging.
Perhaps best known as one half of the "Naked Brothers Band," Nat took a break from the Nickelodeon spotlight to grow up and reappear in front of cameras as a young man -- a remarkably talented and winsome young man. Among his upcoming film roles, Wolff stars opposite Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in Focus Features' upcoming "Admission." A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist,...

Roses are red Violets are blue We have a wonderful movie recommendation Just for you Ok, I know, pass the bucket right now. I’m nearly getting sick in my own mouth after writing that. But look, for the couples out there who are having a nice night in, which will hopefully end up with you getting your pants ripped off, I have a movie recommendation. Yes you can go down the road of a bunch of Tom Hanks movies about getting mail and suffering insomnia in Seattle. Or if you fancy crying your eyes out uncontrollably and losing all dignity then the Notebook could be your cup of tea. And god forbid; if incest is your thing, you could get hold of The Empire Strikes Back and watch a brother and sister share a passionate embrace, watched quite voyeuristically by 2 robots, a smuggler and a tall bloke in a shaggy dog outfit.

Lionel Richie was a mainstay of the 1970s and '80s R&B music scene -- first with his Motown band, The Commodores, then as a successful solo artist. Now Richie is ready to break new ground with an album of country duets, set for a March 2012 release.
Richie will give a taste of his twanged-up act at the annual Cma Awards on Nov. 9, reports Reality TV Magazine. He'll team up with Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker (himself a successful crossover from pop/rock band Hootie and the Blowfish). One song will be a country-fied version of Richie's 1986 hit, "Dancing on the Ceiling."
His full album of duets will pair Richie with Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Shania Twain and Kenny Chesney, among others.
Here's the recently released track listing:

Okay, Rihanna herself didn’t touch down on Broadway herself, but some very fancy, dance-y ladies from the cast of jukebox musical Baby, It’s You! did, in fact, perform a Fosse-style rendition of her song, “Only Girl (In The World)” Just For You[Tube]. If you ever went to theater camp, you know that this sh*t is probably exactly what those kids at Stagedoor Manor do ever summer: turn a seasonal pop song into some sort of slinky, brassy version of its former self that would make Max Martin and all the Swedish songwriting svengalis scratch their heads and wonder how all that Auto Tune turned into Real Human Voices. Keep it up, Broadway! [via Playblog]...

You'll have to indulge me posting this link, we here in California have had a truly embarrassing Governor for a little over seven years. Our new Governor, Jerry Brown, is already, in my opinion, kicking *ss and taking names. See? Go Jerry! Don't listen when they call you "Moonbeam!" (Sf Gate)
When I see stuff like this "Dexter" chart, I want to say something snide like, "Well, someone has a lot of time on their hands." And then I think about all the times I've rewatched "Veronica Mars" and I'm forced to admit that I just don't have the patience or the graphics software to pull something like this off. This is spoilery, so if you haven't seen "Dexter," don't click. If you've only seen a few seasons, scroll down carefully. (imgur)
I found this to be very powerful. I'll let it speak for itself. (The Stranger)
Well, sad day,...

Rap legend Jay-z reaffirmed his title as hip-hop's King of New York on Monday, September 13 when he rocked the new Yankee Stadium with a string of superstar guests including Kanye West, Beyonce Knowles and Chris Martin.
The "Empire State of Mind" hitmaker teamed up with Eminem to hit the stage at the home of the New York Yankees baseball team for the second leg of their Home and Home tour, which saw the hip-hop heavyweights perform in the Slim Shady star's native Detroit, Michigan earlier this month.
Jay-z's protege J.Cole and rapper B.o.B opened the show before Eminem stormed the stadium running through his catalog of hits, such as "Stan" and "My Name Is", as well as his latest chart smashes "Not Afraid" and "Love The Way You Lie" - although there was no sign of his collaborator Rihanna.

Steve on Broadway Australian readers take note: The original cast of August: Osage County is heading to Sydney in August for one last go at the roles they've perfected over the years. Don't miss it.
The Cost of Going to the Movies This is an interesting chart on moviegoing vs. home theater costs. There's an agenda as this is a business site but it's still interesting. I find myself siding with stay home options so much lately from a moral perspective which is so sad because I think the in theater experience is so magical. But like Broadway and the music industry, corporations are all too willing to gouge their audiences price-wise until the audience dwindles. Nobody ever thinks longterm.
Serious Film treats the IMDb Top 250 list very seriously indeed. This rundown has a lot of interesting anecdotes but I just can't stomach looking at it (the list, not this...

Do you find yourself struggling year after year to actually follow through with the promises you made Jan. 1?
Making New Year’s resolutions is the easy part. Keeping them for the full 12 months is a completely different story.
Luckily for them, the Hollywood elite made some smart — and attainable — resolutions this year. Justin Bieber wanted to spend more time with his family, Emily Blunt hoped to cook every day in January and Kim Kardashian wanted to tighten up her tush.
Smart choices, guys! Or so says life coach Kathee Hill, who tells HollywoodLife.com, “It’s all about looking at your goal and making sure it’s not a ’should’ goal. Ask yourself if you’ve had this resolution more than a year. If so, it’s a ’should’ goal and it’s lifeless.”
Why? “If you didn’t do it last year, you’re most likely not going to...

The Office crew proves they still have their web series juice with their latest online offshoot Subtle Sexuality, which first popped up two weeks ago before premiering October 29. Now the entire three-episode web series is now online including the finale (above), a tribute video "Male Prima Donna" about Kelly Kapoor's on-again/off-againg boyfriend Ryan. And with musicals so hot right now, it's not exactly a shocker that they went that route. Also up now is a fully loaded site around the all-girl pop group formed by Kelley (Mindy Kaling) and Erin (Ellie Kemper). The band satisfies at least two of nutcase Kelly's obsessions—pop celebrities and Ryan (B.J. Novak). And Andy (Ed Helms) gets to rock some more of his Cornell acapella skills. And just like any good web series music video—The Guild's megapop "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar" and Sparhüsen's "Apples & Fish"—you can actually buy the video and track on iTunes.

The Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro has taken time off from eating working on the movies to share the wonderful news that in a few days he will share some news. Oh del Toro, don't tease me like that you silly man, what is the news that you will share with us? "In a few days there will be a Big announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. Before anyone starts wondering the usual 'how does he have time?, Is this detracting from The Hobbit?' etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is 'D'." Aha! A riddle, I love riddles! So it'll be something with a 'D', but what could that be? I can't really remember all the stuff that the guy...

Photograph courtesy of Patrick McMullanFor his latest movie, Inglourious Basterds Quentin Tarantino imagined his own version of World War II. I've taken the lesser liberty of imagining how it went, when the director first screened the film for Harvey Weinstein, his longtime boss and mentor. We find them in a projection room at the New York headquarters of The Weinstein Company. Quentin: Papa, I've done it! Harvey: Oh! Stop all that jumping! Quentin: It's finished, Papa. With the music and everything! Please let me show it to you. Please, Papa, please! Because this one—this one I made special. Harvey: Special? Quentin: Special for you, Papa. It's my masterpiece. You're gonna love it. Harvey: I had better love it, after that Grindhouse. Quentin: Oh, Papa, quit joking! Lots of people liked Grindhouse. Harvey: What did they do, sneak into the theater? Quentin: Very funny. Harvey: Well,...
