A very entertaining boxing movie. It needs to be put out on VHS so today's audiences can view it. The actor Tom Neal does a good job as a man dedicated to the Navy who becomes a Navy boxing champion. But then because of family financial trouble, he has to consider leaving the Navy. In order to put his family back on sound financial ground, he signs up for a winner take all boxing match.
Navy Bound is a serviceable, meat and potatoes melodrama. It has elements of Rocky in the boxing scenes as Joe Morelli a Navy boxing champion returns home on shore leave to help his family out who are in financial trouble as they are on the verge of losing their fishing boat.
There are bust ups with his foster brothers who have turned mean so no one else in town will work for them and then gets an opportunity for a professional fight where he can earn enough money to pay off the debts.
The movie is a 'B' movie without any pretensions but it is not too entertaining but has enough commitment from the actors to make up for its shortcomings.
