Quotes

  • Christabel : I've always wanted to know someone who went to China, tell me about it.

Nick : A lot of Chinese live there.

  • Christabel : Hello, Nick. I thought your plane left at twelve?

Nick : It did. They have a habit of leaving whether I'm on them or not.

  • [last lines]

Gobby : [to Christabel, as she's moving her belongings out of Curtis' house]  Now, what about the furniture?

Christabel : I wouldn't want anything that belonged to Curtis. It would only remind me of... happier times.

Gobby : [Arthur comes out with a large armload of expensive fur coats and puts them in her car, Gobby pointing at the coats]  Won't those remind you... just a little?

Christabel : [coyly]  I'll simply have to force myself.

Arthur : [closing the car door with Christabel behind the wheel]  Goodbye, madam.

Christabel : [as Arthur walks away back into the house]  Goodbye, Arthur. My portrait...

Gobby : [to Christabel]  That's mine. Curtis gave it to me for getting you out of the house.

Christabel : Even you couldn't be so despicable.

Gobby : Sure I could. Listen Christabel, will you do me a favor. I didn't want to ask you, but if you just get yourself mixed up in one more little scandal, I'd be able to sell you for more money. It only stands to reason. Why what's happened already between you and Curtis has made your price go up.

Christabel : [smiling knowingly]  Yes, you're right.

Gobby : [sticking out his hand as Christabel is just about to turn over the ignition]  Just a minute. Where's the key to the house?

    Christabel : You're contemptible.

Gobby : [cutting her off]  No. I'm Gobby. Remember? The key?

[Christabel slaps the key in Gobby's hand just before driving off]

Gobby : [as Arthur emerges from the house with Christabel's portrait, and Gobby puts his hand on it]  Ah, my portrait...

Arthur : [holding on tight to the portrait]  May I have the key, sir?

[Gobby nonchalantly drops the key in Arthur's hand, Arthur lets go of the portrait, and the two men bow to each other in farewell]

Arthur : [the scene switches to Gobby's art gallery where he happily changes the price tag on Christabel's portrait from $250 to $500]

  • Christabel : You don't care very much for women, do you?

Gobby : My dear girl, apart from painting my major occupation is convincing women's husbands that I'm harmless.

  • Nick : Why don't you marry me and quit getting lost?

    Christabel : Nick!

    Nick : That's no answer.

Christabel : Oh, I can't darling, I need time, give me a little time.

Nick : All right, I won't push you. I'll give you till tommorow night.

  • Christabel : I suppose no one ever died of a broken heart.

  • Nick : [leads Christabel over to the window]  You seen the view?

    Christabel : Yes.

Nick : It looks better with me in it.
