While the Baron is interrogating Ms. O'Hara at the hotel in Paris (after the photographer is killed and she's arrested), the cross suspended from the Baron's neck disappears and reappears between shots.
Famous footage of Adolf Hitler visiting Paris is shown. Following this, many scenes (and many days) occur before the Baron is called in to see Hitler, yet it is well-recorded that Hitler's visit to the city lasted only 3 hours.
The story starts in 1938 and continues through 1939 and 1940 but all of Ginger Rogers' clothes and hairstyles are strictly 1942.
The photographer says that seven countries have already fallen. At this point, actually eight had: Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, Holland, and Belgium.
(at around 1h 50 mins) The ship's captain is supposedly playing bridge. However, the four card players are clearly playing a completely different game.
While O'Toole is taking Butte-Smith's measurements, an announcement is made on the radio about Austria being absorbed by Germany. O'Toole makes a remark about this happening without a vote. But a referendum had been scheduled for a possible union with Germany, until Germany invaded (unopposed) the day before that referendum was to take place. A non-secret vote (plebiscite) was then held with the anschuluss being approved by 99.7% of Austrians. Though there was no free vote before Germany invaded, one had been scheduled to take place. It was from this vantage point that the radio broadcast took place, and therefore O'Toole would NOT have said that Austria had decided to go with Germany without even a vote. As far as he would have known, at this point in time, there was still going to be a vote. But the movie was made in 1942 and therefore the writers knew there never would be a vote, making this statement by O'Toole with the benefit of hindsight.
