Fresh off a successful cardboard box demonstration, Konami announced today that both Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be coming to the PC. While no release date for the titles was given, series mastermind Hideo Kojima has revealed that both entries will be released through Steam.
Although the franchise is no stranger to PCs, as both the original Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were ported over, these releases mark the first time the series will be available through through Steam. The Platinum Games-developed spinoff, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, was released on Steam earlier this year.
One would probably expect that The Phantom Pain port will be released alongside its console brethren in 2015, but with how long previous ports took to come over, who knows for sure. At the very least, both Metal Gear Solid V...

If gaming had a Hall of Fame, Hideo Kojima would be in a pretty prime position to be one of the first inductees. It’s an understatement to say that his Metal Gear series garnered immense popularity for the stealth genre; it’s pretty much come to define the genre.
While the first two Metal Gear games helped shape the series, the launch of Metal Gear Solid in 1998 turned it into a gaming force. The 3D graphics helped bring the game to life (leaning up against walls and scoping out enemy placements is still awesome) and the story is suitably complex and exciting with plenty of twists to uncover.
With most series, you tend to get a slight decline in quality as the sequels roll out. Not with Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty is arguably better than the first game (despite some initial controversy...

Vulture reports that the next season of Big Brother will be broadcast in HD. Big Brother is such a complicated show to film, switching from Sd to HD took three years to complete, a process that had to take breaks when it came time to airing new seasons. Big Brother is the last prime time show on the broadcast networks to still air in Sd.
Kevin Ryan, one of the guys who looked magnificent on Copper, despite all that awkward facial hair and layers upon layers of clothing, has been added to the cast of History’s upcoming mini-series Sons of Liberty. Ryan will play a British officer in the revolutionary war drama.

History is making another addition to its original programming with an order for a new miniseries, Sons of Liberty. Hot off the continued success of Vikings, and the critical acclaim of other miniseries efforts (like The Bible and Hatfields & McCoys), the network now aims at what looks like a pretty interesting take on the lives of the biggest names of the American Revolution.
It seems as though we’re going for a “no really, they were just actual people,” approach to things, apparently trying to show that these were real men, with real lives and real problems, who threw themselves into something, probably far beyond their expectations. That could be a story worth telling, and there are some great cast members involved. Some audiences may have to be convinced that Ryan Eggold can get them to like him after he so recently got them to hate him on The Blacklist,...

Batman: Arkham Origins shouldn’t have happened. It shouldn’t be. How did a brand new developer working from the abandoned toolbox of one of this generation’s finest teams, self-exiled with cast and writer in tow, and on an origin story of all things, pull off one of this generation’s last great upsets? Arkham Origins may have everything going against it, but it’ll take the most cynical among you to fault it, try though I’m sure you will.

A game's intro can set the tone, mood, and more than anything, they get you pumped to play the game. I know many gamers (myself included) who will take the time to pop in the disc and watch the intro even if they don't get the chance to play the game immediately. It's a great device to engage gamers and set up the overall story. With the latest advancements in technology and 3D graphics, this past decade has seen some of the most impressive-looking cinematic intros ever. Today, I’d like to take a look at some of the best ones the 00s have had to offer, and why they still rank among the best.

Exclusive: National Geographic Channel has greenlit a docu-drama series American Genius from the producers of The Men Who Built America and Sons of Liberty. This time, Stephen David Entertainment will spotlight Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Graham Bell, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, among others. “In an era where America is not always credited as leading ingenuity, this show will remind us that this country has always been a global hotbed for genius, and we will celebrate the way they changed the world we live in,” NatGeo Channel president Howard T. Ngc is billing the multi-part series as the natural extension of its series Brain Games, which sizes up the human brain using an intricate string of experiments, optical illusions, brainteasers and hard science, and The Numbers Game, which looks at how science and statistics may hold the keys to a longer, wealthier, calmer life. Games are often praised for their amazing visuals, deep, complex gameplay and well-written narrative, but music is also a big part of the media. Just as it forms an essential part of any movie's atmosphere, games need the right soundtrack in order to fully immerse the player into the game world. Sony is closing out April with a bang this week, giving PlayStation Plus subscribers a free copy of Zombie Tycoon II: Brainhov’s Revenge on the game’s launch day (April 30th), and offering a massive Spring Fever franchise sale on games that have characters featured in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Picking up where the original Zombie Tycoon real-time strategy title left off, Zombie Tycoon II: Brainhov’s Revenge has players take sides in the war between Orville Tycoon’s army of slow “heavy-duty zombies,” and Professor Brainhov’s mass of fast-moving agile undead. Tycoon’s quest to extinguish all life in Finkleville has him attempting a siege on the last human fortress, when his former mentor (Brainhov) suddenly returns to seek retribution for his apprentice’s betrayal. Zombie Tycoon II: Brainhov’s Revenge is free for PlayStation Plus members tomorrow, and includes Cross-Buy between the PS3 and Vita versions.

After the South Korean Game Rating Board rated an alleged new Metal Gear Solid bundle titled Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection a few days back, Konami opted to not beat around the bush and confirm that the collection is indeed coming. If that wasn’t sweet enough, they went ahead and threw in Metal Gear Solid: Vr Missions and two graphic novels done by Ashley Woods. Now that’s a hell of a fine way to celebrate 25 years if you ask me.

Konami Goes All Out For Solid Snake's Birthday With June's 'Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection'
This June, the publisher is releasing its second "Mgs" collection bringing together every "Solid" game from this and previous generations in a PS3-exclusive package.
Here's what's included in this hefty, cross-generational package:
"Metal Gear Solid" "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" (HD) "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" (HD) "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" (HD) "Metal Gear Solid Vr Missions" "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: Trophy Edition" Ashley Wood's "Metal Gear" graphic novels
It's unfortunate 360 gamers are left out in the cold on this one, but Konami's most recent remakes/updates on Microsoft's platform has been notably problematic, from framerate issues to lighting that didn't serve the vision of the original title.
In their email, Konami didn't provide pricing details for the collection, although last year's "Mgs: HD Collection" (which included "Sons of Liberty," "Snake Eater," and "Peace Walker") retailed for $39.99 on release.

Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" will feature more of Jax's ex-wife, Wendy, whether Jax likes it or not.
Drea de Matteo will reprise her role as Wendy -- whom Jax (Charlie Hunnam) injected heroin into late last year after she threatened his family -- in the coming season, TVLine reports. She's set to appear in several episodes.
Season 5 left off with Tara (Maggie Siff) being arrested as an accessory to murder in Otto's (creator Kurt Sutter) killing of a prison nurse. Perhaps Wendy can lend a hand with the kids?

With Brody (Damian Lewis) now on the run and the storytelling shift that implies, Carrie (Claire Danes) may not need Virgil's surveillance services as much anymore. [Deadline]

In the most alarming gaming news of the week, some of the sheen has been taken of the recent reveal that Metal Gear Solid V and The Phantom Pain are in fact a single game (combining as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain) by the subsequent confirmation that legendary voice actor David Hayter will not be returning as Solid Snake in the next-gen stealth actioner.
Hayter has played the soldier and his genetic blueprint Big Boss in each of the series’ major games since 1998′s Metal Gear Solid, as well as making a guest appearance in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl in 2008. Although Snake appears in the new title, the trailer seems to confirm that he’s been recast. Apparently, Hayter simply wasn’t asked.

With Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance out now, Paul takes a timely look back over the series...
When footage of the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was first released to an unsuspecting public, the sound of Solid Snake acolytes choking on their rations was almost audible: sword-fighting? Combos? Bloody Raiden? That’s not Metal Gear – Metal Gear is Solid Snake grumbling unintelligibly while navigating his way through an incomprehensible plot, avoiding guards with unreasonably impaired peripheral vision while wearing a cardboard box on his head.
While this will likely remain the defining image of the Metal Gear franchise in many people’s minds, the games themselves and eccentric creator Hideo Kojima have never been shy of embracing evolution frequently and unpredictably: there’s a restless quality to Kojima’s games, a desire to experiment and try ideas that most developers would either never have the...

The PS1 classic, Metal Gear Solid, brought higing in lockers to the masses, and stealth hasn't been the same since...
The year is 1998. Millions of PlayStation owners excitedly pop in the latest action-adventure game from publisher Konami, the intriguingly-titled Metal Gear Solid. Following a five-minute-long and highly atmospheric opening cut scene, the lead character, a special forces commando named Solid Snake, is dropped off at the entrance to a quiet dock, where a white-clad guard patrols.
“Right then,” thinks the player. “I’ve got no gun. That guy has a gun. Time to run up to him, knock him out, and nick his gun. Then the shooting can start!” They do this. Snake promptly gets shot in the head.
Undeterred, the crafty player tries a different tack the second time around. This time, they quietly sneak up to the guard. But before they can finish knocking him out,...

Thanks to IGN, we have four more trailers for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The first was released to mark the release of the demo (which became available for download from yesterday), and the rest - "Suiting up", "Locations" and "Zandatsu" - all cover various other aspects of the video game. While it started out as mysterious stealth/action hybrid from Kojima Productions, PlatinumGames have clearly put more of a focus on the same sort of over the top action they brought to Bayonetta and Vanquish. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance goes on sale February 19th. Players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will...

With Sony's announcement that they would soon start saying goodby to the PS2 (in Japan, at least), it felt like a good time to revisit some of the great (and not so great) moments with the console.
10. Meet "Rock Band's" daddy
What happened: The release of "Amplitude"
Date: March 2003
It's not like rhythm games were a new thing for Sony consoles (to this day I can't get "Kick, punch, it's all in the mind" out of my mind). But with the release of Harmonix's "Amplitude" and its follow-up, "Frequency," the PS2 ushered in a new arcade-style of music-shooter hybrid that laid the seeds for the one-day ubiquitous "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" titles that seemed to have no end for a while. Sure, the soundtracks weren't the mix of contemporary and classic hits we come to associate with our modern music game (hey, who remembers Freezepop?), but the eclectic mix...

If there’s one thing about Assassin’s Creed it’s this, the whole of history is open to adventure. It’s a brilliant idea because everywhere and every when can be mined. The critically acclaimed series has gone from Jerusalem to Rome to Constantinople. Ubisoft has brought the series a few hundred years further with the American Revolution as the backdrop. I’m not the first to say that I’m very much looking forward to the next numerical entry, especially having felt Ezio had pretty much run his course. We have a whole new protagonist with Connor and this time a fierce new world hangs in the balance as talk of war comes to a boiling point. It sounds really exciting, so I jumped at the chance when offered to hang out in Boston for a couple of days stalking and stabbing in Assassin’s Creed 3!

Ever since husky-voiced super soldier Solid Snake first scubaed out of the water and strangled a guard and there were credits coming up on the screen whilst you were playing like, what, does this game thinks it’s a movie or something?, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has screamed out “Adapt me cinematically! Adapt me cinematically!”
That’s no huge surprise, given that Hideo Kojima – the nice Japanese man who came up with far-out ideas like “dedicated sniper woman” and “nerdish man urinating in locker” – is a monumental film geek and went about channelling his cinematic fetishes into the very backbone of these brilliant games. Kojima even based Snake’s physique on that of Jean Claude Van Damme. And his face was moulded with state of the art PSone graphics to look sort of like Christopher Walken. That’s serious trivia, folks.
But time has moved on, and with it...

When you consider the stealth genre, one series stands above all the rest: the Metal Gear series, which has been gracing consoles ever since its original release on Msx and Nes in 1987. The early games were revolutionary for their time thanks to their stealth and puzzle mechanics, and understandably wowed gamers. Fast forward to 1998 and “Metal Gear Solid” was released: a pinnacle of gaming on the original PlayStation, Mgs helped re-invent/invigorate the stealth genre.
Recently, Sony has been re-releasing some of the Mgs titles that followed that initial release, giving them the HD treatment (which we are seeing more and more of in today’s market). This Ps Vita HD collection comes hot on the trails of the PS3/360 HD collection with one glaring omission, the absence of the PSP title “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.” While Peace Walker is compatible with the Vita – meaning...

Konami have today announced that you can pick up the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for the PlayStation Vita on June 29 2013. For the uninitiated among you. Metal Gear Solid HD collection features two of the best Metal Gear gams around. Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, all with a nice coat of HD gloss.
The Mgs:hdc also features a propriety transfer system so you can transfer your saved data from the PS3 version of the same game to your Vita system. Not sure why you want to buy the game twice, but it’a nice feature to have anyway.

The HD ports of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater have been cooking over in the Konami labs for a little while now, with the publisher holding off on announcing an official date for the game until seemingly the last minute (three weeks out, to be exact). This is after both games were ported to the PS3 and 360 last winter, that release containing also including a port of Peace Walker, the 2010 PSP game.
The last major port from the publisher, Silent Hill HD Collection wasn't especially well-received, plagued by performance issues and bugs, so hopefully the extra time to get Mgs HD onto the Vita has been put to good use.

While Konami won't nail down a specific date for the release, we know that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is on the way to the Vita this June, hopefully alleviating the doldrums that set in with the lack of summer releases. The port includes Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, bringing the aging/classic (depends on who you ask) stealth game to yet another platform.

Can you believe it’s been a year already? A mere 365 days prior gamers worldwide were preparing themselves for what critics were calling the gaming year of the decade.
For many, 2011 was the year of the comeback kid. The abusive Duke; the dubiously heterosexual Raiden; the anonymous Master Chief – a smorgasbord of retro rebels. And yet, despite this ‘blast from the past’ as it were, we welcomed a host of new arrivals, all of which demonstrated the superior levels of originality that reside within the videogame industry.
2012 is sure to be a big year – heck, if the quacks are right, it might be our last – so surely it’s fitting that our gaming be worthy of the oncoming apocalypse. Call me obsessed, but if those horsemen do decide to make an appearance, they’re going to have to pry the controller out of my cold, dead hands.
It’s game time people.

Sadly, the release of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection has been delayed in Europe until early 2012.
The collection boasts five games from the series, the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater & Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
This is the slightly confusing part, although there’s actually only three games in the bundle, Metal Gear 2&3 are the Substance and Subsistence editions, which contain the two original Metal Gear games.
Now already, this bundle seems something worth waiting for, but that’s not all. All three games in the bundle will contain Trophies for PS3 and Achievments for the Xbox 360. The PS3 version gets its own unique ‘Transfarring ‘ with the Peace Walker game, which allows you to switch your save files from your PS3 to your PSP Vita, allowing you to play on console and on the move.
